Answer this question, please :)

OK, I have noticed that most people that own sheepies have more than one. I have my personal theory on this, but I am curious.

If you have more than one, why? (Aside from breeders, of course, lol). Is it because you started with one, then fell so in love? Companionship for the first one?

Also, do you think Sheepdogs do better with other sheepdogs?

Thanks... Emily

They're like potato chips, you can't have just one
It's an addiction problem, the more the merrier.

Ditto

Two also wear each other out.
I dont know about other sheepies, but our girl, Abby (who was our first sheepdog) is a VERY other-dog oriented dog. She loved our old Great Dane mix, and after he passed, a second sheepie just seemed like the only reasonable choice! :D
I only have one....but Im ocd..I can only keep one dog in perfect shape :D
When you find a breed you love, it's potato chip time.

We've been hung up on two breeds, OES and Great Pyrs. Right now we are down to 3 sheepies and 1 Pyr and trying to talk ourselves into these being the last doggies...............
I married my husband to get his Sheepie. We rescued an Irish Setter and then had to get a younger playmate for her - another Sheepie.
Three seemes to be the best number for us over the years. Usually it's two Sheepies and a Golden.
We even have them mentioned in our will. I will not go to a retirement home that won't allow my furkids - it won't happen. 8O Ever. And my skin kids know it.
skin kids haha

I'm kind of lucky Wally is such a grump, otherwise I think I would have all of Besty's foster dogs!
We personally wanted to add some excitement in our lives...boy, did we get some!
The first sheepie was because I wanted an Old English Sheepdog and our next door neighbor was moving and could not take his oes into his new condo. First sheepie...and first rescue.
Then I didn't want to leave the poor boy all by himself so I saw in the paper that a female was being offered to a good home...and second sheepie.

Now, thirteen sheepies later (not counting four litters nor the eleven sheepie rescues), I have found that three is the perfect number. Always one to play with another and the odd sheepie out to keep me laughing at the crazy antics.

Potato chips??? My guys love them, but only with dip. lol
My first OES was a gift from my sister. I fell in love with him, and the breed instantly.

I started with one, then two. After they died I got two more.

Years later I went crazy. I got a female, then a male, bred them and ended up keeping 5 of their pups. I had 7 OES, all house dogs.

It was hard to move around in the house, so what'd I do?
You guessed it, I bought a bigger house, with a full basement and attached garage. I moved in with 7 OES and a litter of pups.

Unfortunately, the number has dwindled to zero.

At the Sheepiepalooza there were 15 to 31 sheepies together for 3 days - not one dog fight; just a lot of sniffing, running and playing.
I only have Sheepie but I would love another one!!

Fingers crossed that Santa might bring me one if I am a good girl for the rest of the year!!

I always wanted to ask the same question cause I realized aswell that nearly everyone got more than just one Sheepie and I'm thinking sometimes too if I should have another one!

I just wonder what do you do when you go on holidays with all the Sheepies? Most places only take 1 dog!

Heather I still have Berney.

I started with Puddy and then went into fostering. I swore I would not keep one of the fosters, looks like I lied. We will be keeping Titus for the rest of the time he is alive.
It's an addiction.....8)
there is no other way to sanely explain why else I have 3 sheepies and 1 sheepie/wheaten mix.

Holiday...... What's that?
Every day's a holiday with sheepies! :D

I has 7 OES. My oldest was just shy of 15 when I lost her. She was my last.

During those 15 years, I went to Hawaii once for a week, and spent one night in Mississppi at the casino after she died.
mouthypf
When I was a kid, we had a sheepie but my mom decided the house was too small for two dogs and re-homed him. I was not "done" having a sheepie. Fast forward to now, I have the best two dogs. One golden who is a lover and my baby, Simon aka "SIMON NO NO". Who's got the chips???

The SAME thing happened to me.....when I was 15 my parents finally said yes to having an OES......when Shannon was 9 months old I came home from school and she was gone....
my mom said she went to live on a farm, that she needed to live in a place that had more room..... My mom just didn't like the dog...
looking back....I don't really think Shannon went to live on a farm.....
so maybe I am compensating for my childhood with all these sheepies?
I only have one sheepie, :( but I wish I had another.
Mojo loves being around other dogs. I would love for him to have a companion.
I keep working on Ronnie without much success. Mojo is such a good dog. He is afraid that another one won't be as well behaved. Which makes no sense. He was worried about the same thing when we got Mojo and he has been wonderful. Oh well, will just have to keep at it.
Thanks for all the responses!!!

When I was about 13, I went to Arizona for an aunt's wedding. While I was there, I spent the night at the house of one of the girls who were also in the wedding. Her family had an OES, and it slept on the floor snuggled up to me all night in the girl's room. I have been in love with sheepies ever since, and always maintained that once I bought a house, I would get one. I bought my house last Summer, and within a few months, I found Stella. She's still working through her issues, but I have no doubt that eventually she'll get through it all. As soon as she does, I have a feeling I'll be looking for Sheepie number 2!!!
