She could have an infection - vaginal or urinary! I would take her to the Vets soon! Is she spayed? If not - I would recommend doing so. |
If you mean rectally, I have experience with this with Tyler and Kiera. I believe that it is the natural lubrication prior to a BM. I did however think that the fishy smell had to do with the fact that I give them both Omega 3 (fish oil) daily... I guess not. When I smell this it tells me that they need to have a BM, so I give them a walk and within a 10 minutes they both have had a BM.

If it is rectally - it's probably infected anal glands. They should be checked out by the Vet. Normal bowel movements express the anal glands - however - some dogs have problems with impacted anal glands and need them expressed. The smell can be overwhelming!
Anal glands don't usually "leak" - so if it's that - they may be infected. Your best bet is having her checked out at the Vet to rule out any of the above possibilities. Whatever it is - it sounds as though it may be abnormal. Kristen |
