Sleepless in Canada |

Brutus is still a young baby, so he is a work in progress.
Do you put toys in his crate with him? Several of them and rotate so he won't get bored. Leave the TV or a radio on for comfort. Are you able to release him from the crate often and for periods of time? What about having him in the basement in his crate when clients arrive? He will quicky learn that you don't pay attention to him when he is in the crate. The dog lovers will probably be fine with it and you could move him out when the other come. |
I also work out of my house. I do hairstyling at my home and out of house. I have a walk out basement so my clients go in this way. When I go downstairs my pup learnt pretty fast when I go down she stays up, my husband also was home alot so there was always someone kicking around. She prefered to be with me though. I just say "stay" at times she will try to go down but at 8 months she is doing good. If I have to go out and she gets down stairs she will try to get outside but if I have any of my cutting stuff together she just goes to the window and sits sometimes she goes back up other times she is still down there. She only crys to get down on Tuesdays after I had a few days off. But she does stop after a few minutes I just learnt to go down a little sooner then when my 1st client shows so I can tell the pup to be quiet. But they do seem to know if you have people in who love dogs. I also have a door with a window so she does sit and look down at us when we walk pass and of course gets lots of attention. |
My dogs also will choose to sleep on cool tile floors--or the basement floor, when possible. I completely understand why--it's very cool for them and they get much warmer than we do.
I also understand that you want to crate your baby to keep him safe and also to keep your clients comfortable and relaxed. But OES love to be with their people, plus he's a puppy. I agree that trying to locate a crate in the basement where he can see/hear you might be a good idea. You could practice over the days you have off by taking him down and being 'busy' in your work area, while ignoring him. A nice, stuffed kong might help, too. Short stays at first and then longer, so that he'll be comfortable as long as you need him to be. |
my boy the first nite jump over the bathroom gate at nite and hide under the bed till morning at least i didnt hear him cry.. hang in there it gets better classes will help he is just a puppy |
