It doesn't matter what type of animal, how big it is on the screen, or if they are making noise, he growls and barks at it like he is protecting his territory. Last night there were pigs in the far distance, but he sat there growling. He'll also jump up and run at the TV. It happens so fast that he's up and gone before we've had chance to grab him and tell him "No". Apart from this he's very good in the house, so we don't really want to restrict him by having a lead on him all night, as we wonders in and out of the lounge freely. It's just when there's animals on the TV. When it happens we normally pull him back and make him go down until he calms down, which works for the duration of that programme, but will happen again when the next animal show or advert starts. (There is a funny side though, when a animal walks off screen you can see him following it, and then looks a round the back of the TV to see where it's gone. Poor fella's all confused ). It's a very similar situation when we are go. While we are walking along he's fine when he see other animals, but if we stop for coffee, when another dog walks past, he goes mad barking at them. Gatsby is a very freindly sheepie and loves to play with others and doesn't really bark at the other dogs when playing with them. If anyone has any ideas on how we can stop this behaviour - please help before he runs through the TV! |

Hmm...I have no suggestions!
Barney barks when the doorbell on tv rings. He barks when other dogs bark on tv. He barks when there are weird bells or sounds on tv. I tried watching the Shaggy Dog recently...BIG MISTAKE! He goes through phases where he's more sensitive to the tv sounds...and he doesn't bark otherwise. I think it's kind of funny so I haven't done much to deter him. |
I don't have any suggestions except to share the fact that Fozzie does love watching any animals on tv. He will hop off the couch, run to the tv, whine, kiss, and then he will lay down to actually watch them. The funny thing is when an animal runs off screen real quickly and Fozzie's head follows |
Love your avatar!
No suggestions... I've got a young sheepie that watches TV and a older one that doesn't. I think they eventually catch on that it isn't real, but sure is fun to watch the interaction. Donna |
Yeah, I don't know that I can offer much advice on this one either. Sometimes animals on tv catch Callie's attention, sometimes they don't. She does always go crazy when a doorbell rings on tv. When that happens, we just say "It's on TV!" and that seems to calm her down a little (of course, this is just a matter of repetition and seeing that there really isn't anyone at the door and you're not going to get up when you say that). I think she's finally beginning to figure it out.
I see that you're in the UK, so you probably don't have this commercial, but there is a commercial here for some kind of vaccum cleaner or something and it has all of these squeaky sounds on it (sounds like different squeaky dog toys) - that one drives her crazy! She will stop whatever she is doing and stare at the tv with her head cocked sideways trying to figure out what in the world is going on... |

When I said above the weird sounds make Barney crazy---that was the commercial I had in mind! |
Sorry I can't offer advice either. Chauncey will only occassionally bark at animals on TV, my problem is during football season. I love football and obviously so does Chaunce. He will bark and grumble through the entire game. I'm just glad he's a Steeler's fan ..........Kathy |
Murphy also loves the animals on tv also, but isn,t quite as excited as your dog is |
