It WILL get better.......eventually. Some dogs take to the crate quickly others take a couple weeks. So you have two choices stick it out and she will calm or give in and you can kiss crate training goodbye.
Have you tried the old "standby" tricks? A radio or tv in the room for company might help. You can try putting the crate in the room that you are in but that will make it even more difficult to sleep. Like a baby she needs to learn to sleep on her own, and she will. You may have some sleepless nights but if you hang tough she'll adjust. |
It definitely gets better, and quickly. Is her crate near to the bed? If she can tell you're near it will probably help. Sounds like you are well on your way! |
I always put the crate in the bedroom which helped a lot.
Outside of that, just remember.... the more you cave in (take out of crate) the nights you've just had enough... the harder and longer the process will be. good luck |
I know what you mean. We now have Carley's crate at the foot of the bed. As long as all of the lights are out she goes right to sleep when I do.
She will be 4 months old on June 20 and she sleeps at least 6 hours at night. I promise it does get better. It sounds like you are having lots of fun when she is awake. It is like having a baby you sleep when they do. Today we were changing the sheets on our bed and she wanted to play tug of war with the corner of the sheet. Then she laid on the blanket and didn't want to get up. She will sleep as long as she knows we are there next to her. |
I read some other posts on other threads, so we played a game with her today - I put little tidbit treats in the crate, and when she went in, she got lots of praise. Now, believe it or not, she's taking a nap in there, so that tells me she's comfortable in there. The door is open, so that too probably makes her happier. We do keep the crate in the bedroom at night (that's how we heard her cries so loud & clear). We're going to stick it out though, since I think it's important for her own safety, like, if I have to run an errand or something. We're keeping our fingers crossed for maybe 2 to 3 hours sleep tonight - now since she's taking a nap, we're going to do the same. zzzzzzzzzzzz |
we slept on the floor next to the crate for the first week or so. It seemed to keep him calm. |
Well, I guess it was a combination of things, but we actually got some sleep last night, and it was only her second night with us. A little whimpering, but then to sleep! Blessed, blessed sleep! We moved the crate closer to the bed so she could see my husband, I put a Kong with a little peanut butter & kibble, our "used" tee shirts, a ticking clock wrapped up in a towel along with various toys. We're learning right along with her I guess. Two potty breaks in the night, and we all woke up refreshed (her, more than us). She is such a little joy - even Guido the cat likes her - it's like he knows that she is a baby and respects that.........for now at least. She played like a yeoman this morning, and now she's having her morning nap. We couldn't be happier! |
I am so happy you finally had a decent night sleep. ahhh the sounds of zzzzzs coming from the little crate. Music to our ears. lol I hope you have more restful nights. |
Wow - and night number three was even better. Thank you all for the great advice! Now, I'm off to find a thread on shredded arms and ankles....... Thinking about changing Tessie's name to "Jaws". |
Just keep singing the Gloria Gaynor son "I will survive" and YOU WILL!!! |
