Tent caterpillers, gypsy moth caterpillers So we called a pest control company who gave our trees a bath with a solution to knock em out. (Hope this works) |
|
We have them here too....I called the arborist to come and take a look. He saw the dogs and said....you don't want us spraying stuff here at your house.....
So just a word of caution...keep your pets away from the sprayed areas |
I AM SOOOOOOOO SORRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We seem to have missed the "curse" this year!!!!!!! I don't know how we got so lucky as other places around us have them but I have only seen ONE so far. Last fall we cut all the nest's out of the trees and burned them. But even doing that I was afraid that there might be some we missed. But SO FAR, knock on wood, it's been good. My tiny lilac bush has flowers on it for the first time EVER, last year the gypsy moth caterpillars at the tree back to the branches. |
We had them last year - Todd cut them out and burned them. So far, none this year! |
Ginny, So glad you are not having a problem this year.
Our lawn company tells us there are 5 different caterpillers species in our area causing problems. The tent and gypsy are most bothersome. It is an epidemic here again, so many farms and residents are having to spray this year. Here is a recent article== http://www.projo.com/news/content/cater ... f1355.html Got sheep thats great you could cut them out, we had thousands last year for about 4-5 months. Although there have been outbreaks before, the past 2 years have been beyond extreme. |
Well, according to your article we may not be out of the woods yet, so to speak. The article says late June to July so ours may just be later getting started. I HATE the thought of having to deal with them again this year. Last year was just BEYOND THE PALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
