After checking the perimeter of the house outside today, I'm sure it's skunks I guess I'll have to set a live trap up and relocate them, but letting them go is the part I'm worried about! I don't want to get sprayed and I don't want my van to stink like skunk either.... Anyone else having skunk issues this year? |
|
Does this mean that by the end of summer, I can call you Stinky |
Luckily, I have never even seen a skunk in the Desert.
But I do feel for you. Maybe you should call a professional. |

When my German shephard got sprayed that is EXACTLY what she and my whole house smelled like. Like burnt vinyl or plastic. It is way worse than the soft, smelly stink of a dead skunk on the side of the road. I assume what you smell is a fresh spray, while the stink that we are used to is the smell once diluted and dispursed in the air. Can you contact animal control to come get the skunks when they are caught? My sister had raccoons under their porch, and they put tons of black pepper under there and they left. Might try that. |

Red pepper works too We've had good success with it keeping squirrels and raccoons away. |

LOL-- Here's what does not work----
There was a theory that if you played a radio, the raccoons would stay away thinking there were "people" about. So we placed terry cloths with coyote urine ( available at the feed/grain store ) around our deck. Had an old radio inside a plastic bag , left it on cool jazz--- next morning the radio was found thrown from one end of the deck to the other. Large holes in the plastic bag.. So much for that theory |

the deck to the other. Large holes in the plastic bag.. LOL. We stayed in a place once on vacation where there were raccoons present so we decided to leave leftovers for them each night. We had pizza with broccoli and the raccoons ate the whole pizza we left for them, with exception to each sprig of broccoli. Regarding wildlife, there has been some animal which has been spraying/marking all over our property & it really stinks. Having a tough time keeping the dogs away from the areas. I think it might be bunnies. |
Last year we had a litter or whatever you call it of baby fox playing in our yard. Mickey wanted to play with them and Niles wanted to eat them. One decided to take up residence under our deck. I was afraid to let the dogs out in their fenced area. We just had lattice put to to keep them away, hopefully.
Someone told me that the area just down the street is called "skunk alley". Oh good. We don't even live in a rural area. |
It does work we had a racoon mom and her babies in the garage and I put a radio (playing REAL loud) in and left the garage door open a bit and they were all gone the next moring

Using a ziplock bag (that had been used to hold raw hamburger) to cover the radio may have been a mistake... |
We don't have those smelly critter here
Thinking of you and hope no ones get skunked |
Yet another critter to add to my list of "glad we don't have those here!" |
