Rescue dogs all come with baggage of some kind, perhaps Teddy was never housebroken? Has he been neutered?
Now that he's marked his territory on your hearth he's claimed it as his place to pee. You might try wiping it up with a paper towel or small cloth and staking that outside where you want him to potty. Hopefully, he'll get the idea. Then use an enzyme cleaner to thoroughly clean up the hearth so he'll be less likely to go there again. |
Do you know Teddy's history? My brother adopted a Bouv mix that was a court ordered take away due to neglect. He had spent the first few years of his life tied up outside and therefore didn't like "going in front of an audience". I know it sounds weird but it is true! He was VERY reluctant to "do his business" on a leash. If he could go out on his own in the backyard he'd be done in a flash. Just a thought..... |
