Has anyone else seen this regression with their pups? He is still good in the house, but he seems to be testing his boundaries with me when we are outside. I am trying to spend even more time keeping up on the training these days cause we have some changes in our lives in the next couple of weeks and I don't want him out of hand. |

I think I have heard it called the teenager years with them, I can tell you I have went through it with Jack the worst and Annabelle wasn't as bad, but we did notice it. You might want to throw in more training sessions with rewards to keep them on the right track and to know what you expect of them. It doesn't last long, just make sure that he continues knowing that you are the pack leader. This also might be a good time for another training class also. I hope everything gets better soon, keep us updated on him. Stormi and co. |
I wonder if that would work with the 2 leggers? |
What, send the 2 legged ones back to kindergarten? NO WAY! 12 more years, uh uh. |
LOL |
I would recommend a refresher obedience class - or a first one if you haven't been already!
Also - is your dog neutered - if not - this may be the problem. His hormones are getting the best of him! Re-establish your role as leader too! He's testing you - it's the age! Kristen |
Is there anyone else in the house 'working' with him? I noticed the typical teenager things with my dog also but in addition, my husband was letting him get away with things that were innapropriate. Since my husband was letting him slide most of the time, he started testing me. (That would be the pup, my husband has always tested me. ) |
He is actually the best in the house. It is when we are out on the leash that he is starting to act out a little. I was thinking the other day that he may have a little more energy and excitement these days because it has been a little cooler after the hot summer. But I agree with most that he is just going through "that age" and I have to wrangle him in and keep up on the training. |
I am going through this with Frank now too at 7 months. It's funny how he pretends not to know any of his key commands anymore. |
Yes they certainly go through the rebellious stage! 2 leggeds and 4 leggeds!
It's like a testing phase with dogs, they want to see if they can shove you out of the alpha dog spot and once they realize they cannot they usually settle. |
Drake is 9 months and I am seeing the same type of regression. Drake has loved to be brushed but lately it is a power struggle. He does well with walking but no longer sits on command and it takes a time or two to get Drakle to sit. He is a good boy but he seems to forget the most basic commands, kind of like my two boys. |
