We hauled in 1,200 lbs. of top soil! You can see in the first picture the difference between our yucky dirt and good soil. It is also very rocky under there. Poor Ronnie had to dig huge holes for my new plants so I could back fill with some peat and the good stuff. I planted Threadleaf Tickseed, Beardtongue, Lady's Mantle, False Spirea, a few Impatients and a Blaze climbing rose. Oh, can't forget the two whopper tomato plants. I moved some of my house plants out there. They were in serious need of a bath!! I'm going to have to go to another garden store to get my Columbine. The one I went to didn't have the blue ones. Didn't have the butterfly bush either. So far I have things that bloom in June, July and August. Will probably wait till fall to see how things start to fill out then put in mums and bulbs. I put up the little brick wall to keep Mojo out. Ha, hope it works, he like the smell of the new dirt!!! The area between the brick wall and the tree I want to turn into a little seating area once we get the deck done. Think it would make a great place to have coffee or read a book. Thanks for all the suggestions. If you think of anything else let me know. Ronnie might mind planting some more but I sure don't. |

it looks great!!!!! and thank you for planting tomatoes!! |
Very nicely done. You'll have to take pics as the garden progresses. Good luck with your green thumb! |
Very nice!!!
Are you mulching it - or is the soil exposed? Can't wait to see more pictures. |

Are you mulching it - or is the soil exposed? Can't wait to see more pictures. Right now it is just exposed soil. I will probably mulch later on. Since it is fresh top soil andI have more planting to do I'm going to wait. It is a pain to try to plant once you put the mulch down. Especially since we have to dig such big holes to prep for the plants. |
This looks awesome!!
I love the headboard for a trellis. I did the same thing with an old screen door. Don't wait too long to mulch . . . or you'll be pulling up weeds like I am. |
Lookin good!!!! I spent my weekend putting in the mini vegetable garden, so I'm feelin your pain. Can't wait to see how it all fills in! |
I'm so glad I posted this last spring. I had forgotten what I planted!!!!
I remembered a couple of them but was a total blank for the rest. I need to make some markers. I put out some seeds the other day. Hope at least some of them come up. Just in case I forget next year, I planted fox glove, morning glory, columbine, poppy and dame's rocket. |
Looks lovely Angel! so pretty!!! |
I'm impressed! Lovely garden plan! I'm still struggling with half dead grass. |
Its lovely you have done a great job.
If you want to make it look bigger try using mirrors in corners especially behind plants to make the whole thing seem bigger. You can get a film which is reflective and will not shatter like glass. The gardening programs in the UK are starting to use it alot. |
I love narrow gardens. There is so much you can do with them! Nice job. All that peat here would dry and blow away......sigh.
Was 23 this a.m. in the garden.............I've learned not to even think planting until well into May........when the nurseries are usually sold out. Such is life down in a hole........cold air sinks. |
Looks great, but how do you keep your dog out of the mud? |
