groomers

I have been checking out some groomers for Obe and have a question for those of you who take your dogs to one. My question is on average how long should it take a professional to groom an oes in full coat? I had one groomer tell me it would take about an hour. I looked at him like he was crazy. In my mind there is no way that a person could brush, bath, dry and brush out Obe in an hour. Do the groomers that you all use line brush or do they just dry and brush?

Just going to chime in based on my experience with Fred's groomer. His groomer usually keeps him for about four hours. She brushes him out, bathes him, dries him, plucks the ear hair, clips fur between his paws and clips his nails. Most OES members do their own grooming. I do coat maitenance every other day and have his groomer handle his bath once a month. My attempts at bathing him at home were disasterous and I ended up with too much water outside the tub.
Yeah, but it only takes an hour to shave them down.
Watch out!!!
I would say at least 4 hrs.
I have done all the bathing, brushing, fur around pads, nails, ears, etc. since he was 9 weeks. Now he is just getting bigger and I dont like the new bath tub/shower that much, great for humans not for 10 month old sheepies. Tried the hose outside and he was having no part of that. So I figured I would try a groomer. If it turns out to be bad then I will go back to doing it myself. After I buy one of those shower heads with the hose attached so I can bring it down to his level.
When I used to take Violet to the groomers, I would leave her there for four hours.
When I took Ollie and Bart in (had them at different times), they were there all day. My favorite groomer liked to take all day, giving my dogs rest breaks and potty breaks throughout the day. her business is out of her home, so it is a lower stress situation for the dogs.
I take Oscar to the groomer every two weeks for a bath, and he gets shaved every six weeks. For the bath alone, I usually have him back in 2 to 2 1/2 hours, but remember, he's shaved so it doesn't take him incredibly long to dry. For his clips, he's there no more than 4 hours.

I think an hour seems a bit OPTIMISTIC.

Laurie and Oscar
4 hours here too. Alot of groomers understand "full groom" to mean a complete shavedown so I would make sure your groomer understands you do not want him shaved down but intend to keep him in full coat.

yes, you have to be very spacific as to what you want done/cut.
Usually I get about two days to make it all: on the first I comb all the dog putting her without any knots. On the second it bath's time and complete dry. The last day is for showing it to neiborhood!!!!
AN HOUR? NO WAY , UNLESS YOUR GROOMER IS EDWARD SCISSORHANDS. I WAS LUCKY TO FIND A BREEDER OF OES'S IN MY AREA AND SHE OFFERED TO GROOM HER SINCE I HAVE HAD BAD EXPERIENCE'S IN THE PAST. SHE HAS ABOUT 6 OF THEM AND SHOW'S THEM AS WELL. I TAKE LUCY TO THE GROOMERS HOUSE AND SHE DOES IT ALL, BRUSH'S, BATHS, PAW PAD'S, AND PLUCKS HER EARS AND GIVES HER A TRIM. IT TAKES HER 2 1/2 - 3 HOURS AND SHE IS VERY EXPERIENCED AND IM LUCKY TO HAVE FOUND HER. SO IF A GROOMER SAYS ONE HOUR I WOULD BE CAREFUL UNLESS THE PLANS ARE TO SHAVE YOU OES, THEN AN HOUR TIME FRAME MAY BE ALL IT WOULD TAKE. EVEN WITH A QUALITY DRYER IT WOULD TAKE AN HOUR JUST TO GET THE COAT DRY. SHOP AROUND FOR A GOOD GROOMER AND ONE YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH. GOOD LUCK~
We have had the same groomer for both of our dogs and we have always droppes them off at 8:30 AM and picked them up about 2:30 to 3:30 PM. But on another point our groomer has started shaving the bridge Bella's nose. We are going to ask her to stop but I was curiuos if other groomers did this ?
Nope - never had that done to my dogs! 8O
I've had groomers shave the bridge of Izzie's snout too...I think in general they just don't know what to do with sheepies :D
Way back when, when Norman went to a groomer, they'd shave the length of his snout too. I wonder where that did come from? Hmmmm
About the hose that attaches to the shower-- best $30 ever spent, for us. It's so much easier and faster, and you don't break your back so much. It's kinda high, IMO, for what it is, but definitely worth it if you ever plan to bathe your dog yourself.
Max and Ruby both like to be sprayed with the hose from our shower head...this has made it a lot easier.

As far as the groomers I have tried two and one I didn't like and the other I really like. I don't think anyone could give my Max a brush, bath, dry, and brush in an hour. I usually tell my groomer exactly what I want...for example a bath, trim around the paw pads, ears plucked/cleaned, etc.. Don't just say groomed...they will do whatever is easy and run with your money. (At least that is my experience with the groomers in my area)
