We got to the park, and set up right next to folks with a couple of small dogs. They started yapping as some as Bosley and Dixie got out of the van. We found out they were friendly to other dogs, took our two over for intros, and all was fine and quiet for the rest of our time there. We set up camp, and crated Dixie under a tree and put Bosley on a tie-out. Dixie was quite happy with her "safe place" and Bosley was very intrigued with all the goings on. We took the pooches for several walks, met tons of people, and were called over to different campsites to meet the dogs. Back at our site, the dogs settled in. Bosley had a big shade tree to lay under, but he prefered to be glued to Don and I and stay under the picnic table. Dixie, on the other hand, jumped right into the trailer when we were done setting up, and was happy to watch from her new "safe place"...You can see that there is a screen curtain hanging down. It was enough to keep her from coming out, but she really did not seem interested in leaving. So we took several walks with them, and alternated tie-outs, and they seemed to settle in quite well. They were not even desturbed by the fireworks....Yaaahhh!! Sleeping was great...Bosley took the floor and Dixie curled in a corner of the double bed and didn't move all nite. Some things that we need to work on though: Everytime one of us took Dixie alone for a walk Bosley would howl and cry, and get totally frantic. He cannot handle being without her. If he couldn't see her it was not too bad, but if she is in sight, and he can't get to her, he is the most sorriful thing.... We had to take Dixie for several walks throughout the day, evening and night...because she would not pee. We left our house at 1:00 pm, and got back home at 11:00PM the next day, and boy, did she have a full bladder... We had tried in the fields, by the woods, quiet areas, noisy areas...She would jog and sniff, but she was not interested in any spot to do her business. Unlike Bosley, who peed everywhere and anywhere... So, our 10 day road trip at the end of June is going to be pretty uncomfortable for Little Miss Muffet, unless she adjusts her bathroom standard requirements! |

What a great way to spend a day/night! Your little set up looked so cute! Glad everyone had fun even if Bosley didn't like Dixie going away for a few minutes!! |
Wow, Nicole... I absolutely LOVE your new trailer! It so cute! Scott and I have been researching small trailers, since we want to sell our 27 footer, and replace it with something newer (ours is pretty much an antique ) and smaller. How big is yours? And did it seem cramped with 2 sheepies, and 2 adults? We have to live in ours for up to 3 weeks at a time (at shows) so we are concerned about how small is "too small"
We've always had really good luck camping in a trailer with sheepies. They seem to thrive on the comfy close quarters, and love having the whole pack together all day . The ones with "shy bladder" seem to get over it pretty quick...couple days, at most. They also seem to instinctively stake out a small "territory" right around the trailer, and can be trusted not to step over their own imaginary "boundary" without mom or dad. It looks like everybody had lots of fun! Good luck with your longer trip! |
That looks like so much fun! How convenient for the campground to be only 10 minutes from your house, perfect trial trip. Bet Dixie and Bosley loved the "family" time. |
VERY cool. What a fun way to spend the weekend! |
Yes, looks like lots of fun. glad to hear it went well. I am going to try and go next weekend (providing good weather). Obe has never been and I will be using a tent. So we shall see. |
Looks like you all had a grand time and boy does it bring back memories of hubby, 4 kids, one dog and me in a 12 foot trailer |
FUN!!! |
Nic, isnt that the most amazing thing about sheepie girls...how long they can hold it....the first time we went to san diego with panda...she refused to pee any where near our little apt...I got frantic after the 24 hour mark....found a school yard and let her go....ive never seen a dog pee and poop so much at one time....after that though she seemed okay....
i love your trailer..... |

It's not just girls, Bailey does this too. He prefers to do his business in familiar places. But, after a long day, he finally realizes that we're not going back to his yard and he gives in LOL! |
Looks like fun! |

Laurel. This is a 15 foot 1981 Trillium, fibreglass, GVW is 2000 pounds. It has a queen-sized double bed and nice-sized bunks. Dixie slept on the bed with us, and Bosley slept on the floor. There was enough room for all of us, and even when we had our supper the dogs were inside with us. But I will have more to say about this when we get back from our 10 days on the road, with an additional 2 15 -year old boys taggin along. Brenda!!!! 5 weeks to go!!!!! I can send you a link to where there are a couple for sale in Alaska, that you can always go look at. |
Just saw your post now.. I love your new trailer.. bubble on wheels..glad the puppers had fun, Dixie will get over her pee pee issues if she is anything like her cousin.. Murphy will do his business ANYWHERE... not shy about anything..
5 more weeks to go.. Can't wait!!!! |
We went camping again this weekend, to a site only a 10 minute drive from the Niagara Falls.
The pooches were amazing. We even left them at the site (Dixie in her crate and Bosley in the trailer) while we went to the hot tub for 20 minutes. When we got back we asked the folks camped across the road from us if they made any noise and they hadn't heard a peep out of either one. They were VERY popular on our walks and with people walking by our site...especially with little kids...LOL...Bosley just lays down so they can pat him or whatever. Dixie, well, we have to keep her from bouncing up to give them kisses... The 7 yr old girl camped next to us gave Dixie a nice brushing.....and insisted on giving them all their meals...LOL (oh, yeah..Dixie finally peed, an hour before we left to come home) So, that is the last time we go out before mid-June when we are gone for 11 days, doing over 2000 miles...all over the Atlantic Provinces.... Brenda, oh, BRENDA!!!! Better start making ice to put the wine on! Here we come! |

Better start making ice to put the wine on! Here we come! LMAO... Dixie is going to have a FULL bladder by the end of 11 days.... I actually broke down and bought a cork screw for the wine (yard sale, 10 cents).... so that we don't have to use the cordless drill to open..... Counting the days, praying for nice weather and that Murphy LIKES his visitors.. |
