Great question!
I've often wondered about the Jack LaLanne juicer and the Juiceman Juicer and stuff like that. A friend of ours had one, an inexpensive brand, and it was loud and "whiney", the most annoying sound you could imagine. |
we have the little cuisinart juicer and it's great. You just plug it in and juice away. And the spigot can be angled up so you don't drip on everything when you're done juicing. |
Zahra,
I haven't posted forever but I felt obligated to respond to this topic. I had a centrefuige type juicer a JuiceMaster Juicer explode in my face and blind me in my right eye. It's the type of juicer that has the basket that spins and extracts the juice from the pulp. If you google electric juicer recalls you'll see lots of people have been injured from them. I would like to Juice also so if you find any that someone can guarantee that can't happen please let me know. I get scared if my dishwasher makes a funny noise I bolt from the room and I hold a big metal pot lid in front of my face when I use the blender. Nuts I know. I loved juicing before that happened. It was easy when your in a hurry and don't feel like cooking to eat healthy. |

I sure didn't expect to hear something like that in this thread. |
Wow, as hard as ours is to get apart, I'm surprised to hear they can explode! I'd give you the brand name, but it isn't made anymore......still works like a dream. It looks a lot like the Brevile or L'Equip. Ron is right, they are noisey and Jack LaLanes is especially noisey.
We have done countless bushels of apples in ours over the years to where the plastic is stained brown. You have to chop the fruit to fit into the feeding tube. No big deal unless you are doing 50 lbs of apples at a crack. Look for a pulp extractor otherwise you can't do much before you have to stop and clean out the pulp. I have two concerns, first the cost to juice. Produce is expensive. If you are growing most of these items, great!!! Second was all the pulp I toss out. So we ended up also purchasing a Vita Mix super blender. (big noise factor here too) So for some items I prefer to send them thru the Vita Mix with a dab of apple juice and get all the fiber opposed to the juicer where you throw the fiber out. |
OMG Herbgirl!!! That's HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so sorry that happened to you. I hope you got a good lawyer and bankrupted them. Is this the one you had? http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml95/95120.html I found 11 more recall of juicers on cpsc.gov. ELEVEN! WOW I had NO IDEA. THANK YOU for bringnig this to my attention! I will warn all of my friends who have juicers. |
Here's another one that resulted in at least one eye injury.

Wow! Thanks Ron! While not my brand, it is something to be double sure about when replacing the grinder basket! What a horrible thing to have happen! |
Hi Herbgirl,
Thank you for your post. I am so sorry for your incident, never expected that there have been many injuries associated with a defective juicer products. Big hugs to you, and thanks so very much for sharing your personal story. This why the forum is so precious, we have so many members who come forward to share their experiences. You have brought light to an important issue many of us were previously clueless about. |
Yup Ron I'm pretty sure that is the model. The lawyer still has it. That happened about 7yr or 8 yrs ago.It cut my cornea in half, damaged my lens which had to be replaced and ruptured the globe of my eye. The only thing that really bothers me is the sun and bright light.I have a surgical pupil which means it doesn't adjust to the light to well.I wear sunglasses pretty well all the time when outside.I'm not complaining though. I actually feel extremely fortuanate I didn't lose my eye or the schrapnel didn't hit one of my kids.I wouldn't have sued but the juicers were made cheap as possible overseas not even polycarbonate plastic. The company apparently went out of business and their insurance policy they let lapse the sane day my accident happened so they couldn't be sued for damages. I think I had a bad lawyer. Thanks for feeling bad everyome but don't cause I'm fine. I ended up with my pupil being shaped like a little fish cause some of the sutures came out.My horoscope is Pisces so thats kind of funny. Some time soon I'll post a pic of it |

My boyfriend's pupil is like that too from a hernia he had when he was a kid- his pupil doesn't dialate at all so he wears sunglasses even when it's pretty shadey out, needless to say he gets made fun of a lot for trying to look cool What a crazy story though, I'm glad it turned out somewhat ok! |
