The vet thinks it was a double whammy of the parasite and something viral. But she got a bunch of fluids and now I have 3 pills to give her. But she looks so much better. We gave her a bath yesterday, I swear she lost 5 pounds or more, she was so bony. She is still laying around a bit, but her strength is back (nearly yanked me off my feet this morning). Great to have her home. I really don't want to see her like that again. Sue |

Good news! I'm so glad she's ok! I'm sure she'll be back up to 100% once she is done taking the medications, sometimes they can make them a little sleepy while they do their work... |
Glad you hear your lil girl is doing better! |
Anybody have any other knowledge of what I can feed her. My vet said chkn and rice or beef and rice. I'm actually giving her ground turkey and rice. She was great Sat & Sun, but then last night she got sick all over the place. yuck. She is still hungry which is good, but I gave her some this morning and she drank some water and 1/2 of it came right back.
I also noticed that it usually occurs after she drinks...so I tried just giving her 1/2 cup of water. But it came back too. My vet said try gatorade, but she won't drink it (don't think she likes the color). So if anyone has any other suggestions. She is tired, but still moving, I just want to keep her hydrated. What about juice or is that too acidic? Sue |
Why don't you try her on chicken broth or some chicken broth mixed with water. I found that this worked extremely well when one of our dogs was not feeling well.
Just dump a whole chicken in a pot of water, boil it for a couple of hours and then strain out the bones and meat (the meat can be used with the rice that you are feeding her). Good luck |
Yeap, I am with Jennifer, I did that with my kittens when they had diareah and were dehydrated. Chicken broth works great! Hope she feels better. |
Hi,
I've been away for a while so I missed the story on Lola. I am sending best wishes for her to get back to 100%. Chicken broth I remember reading is not just an old wives tale but contains ingredients that scientist claim does have a healing agent . Sounding like a broken record once again as I've often wrote about it on here - Shaggy my past OES has immune defeciency thyrombocytopenia which has a high fatality rate as the immune system attacks itself. She was on chemo, steroids and a host of other meds. Questioning the quality of her life I took her off everything as she was like a big blob that just sadly laid there. I went to the library and read up on natural vitamins and began giving her those as well as a daily ration of chicken broth with lots of beta carotene veggies like carrots, sweet potatoes ect... Her immune system bounced back and she lived another 6 years after diagnosis. Yup chicken soup is good for all. Her energy level and vigor for living returned and she remained on the same diet for the last 6 years of her life. Turkey is also known to contain melatonin which overall gives one a feel good attitude - so perhaps try that too? Lots of hugs to Lola from my boys. |
Any broth might help. I cooked shrimp today and decided the dogs would enjoy the cooking solution. I didn't add seasonings so it was safe. Boy, was I popular today! |
