So, what do I need to buy? In specific terms of brushes, cleaners, toys, food, size of crate, etc? |

I LOVE chris christensen pin brushes but they are very pricey
you NEED at LEAST a 12-pack of paper towels gallon size of nature's miracle (found at any pet store) is easily a cleaner most people recommend, but the original formula which is enjoyed the most by consumers is now called something else. the new stuff doesn't work as well, but people still get it. If you want to know what the new label is for nature's miracle (original formula), you'll have to google. i can't remember at the moment. crate size. people tend to get a few sizes OR get a divider to put in a large crate because puppies get overwhelmed and/or may pee in their crate if it starts off too big. should be big enough just to turn around and lay down in. leash - i love love love a halti or gentle leader. if the dog pulls while having one on, it doesn't tug your arm like a leash due to how it is designed. most trainers recommend one, but it takes a few times for a dog to get used to it so also having a normal leash available is nice too. food. you should start using whatever your breeder used and then maybe mix in a brand you enjoy. it SEEMS like most people on here use nutro or iams with good results. toys - i never bother with the cheap rubber ones that are easily to chew holes in. they never last. just get a few to start off with because you may have a tough chewer right away (like i did) and need stronger toys sooner than you expect. many people will recommend a kong for a puppy. i'll leave the rest for others to share. there are many topics asking the same thing, which you can find using the search engine. they may help in case we forget something i also started saving up on plastic baggies to pick up poop. can't wait to hear stories of what it's like with your new puppy. HERE'S A TOPIC ASKING SAME THING (hth! ) http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?t=12600 |
First of all CONGRATULATIONS!!! I bet you are so excited. We are all excited for you!
Great start Joahaeyo for a list! I will add: Papertowels: Stock up now, trust me, you'll need them from everything to wiping his hiney to cleaning up messing the floor. Treats: For traning. I'd get small ones as you will be using them often. My Oliver goes through about a box every week to 2 weeks, he is 14 weeks old. Patience: Just remember how cute he is, and you can get through most of the frustrating times. But, when that won't work, put him in his crate and go for a walk and just release the stress. The first few days are the roughest! Good luck, and I look forward to seeing pictures! |
