Have you considered backing up your conventional fence with an electronic fence? For a couple hundred dollars you buy everything you need and install it yourself.
You do need some patience with the training but it is otherwise easy. Most systems suggest a dog be six month old before starting this training. |
He's learned that he can easily escape by climbing over the fence so he cannot be left outside by himself for any length of time. For now, he may be sticking around but as he gets used to this new freedom, he'll begin exploring. I'd hate to hear he's been lost, stolen or hit by a car. Until you get a secure confinement solution in place, just don't leave him outdoors unattended. |

Cheapest way to extend the height of the fence:
1) Get some 8' x 1/2" reinforcing rods from your local hardward or concrete supplier and attach them to the existing posts, with wire and driving them into the ground about 18" 2) get a roll of 2" x 4" welded wire fencing and wire it to the rerods and top of the existing fence. The wire fencing comes in various widths. You can get a 25' x 4' roll and cut it in half for a 2' x 50' extension. Good luck. Should be able to do the job for under $50. |
