Hide and go seek

Bailey just gave me a heart attack. I sit in my office working all day long when I'm not travelling. So I've been sitting here on the computer for the past 2 hours. Sometimes I leave the back door open so Bailey can go in and out. We have a 6 foot block fence around the yard, so I didn't think getting out was an option. Usually Bailey just curls up somewhere cool and naps.

After two hours I walked out of my office and didn't see Bailey. I walked out into the backyard, but didn't see him there either. So I walked back in the house and called him. He's not a barker, but when we call he usually comes to us right away. No response. Now I'm starting to panic. Back into the back yard. No sign of him. Upstairs, looking through all the rooms. No sign of of him. Back downstairs. No sign of him. Holy @#$%, that dog figured out a way to get over the fence! How could he do that? I put my sneakers on to go outside. One more round of the house, opening overy door (Bailey doesn't open doors so I had skipped the rooms with closed doors on the first go round). When I opened the laundry room door - he ran out like he was shot by a cannon! Poor boy had gone in there to take a nap and closed the door on himself. Which was fine for his nap, but when he heard me calling and couldn't get out he was upset. Not upset enough to bark, though. But he sure did jump around a lot when I let him out 8O . My heart is still racing. I really thought he had turned into Houdini and disappeared.

I have done that SOOOOOOOO many times with my cats and maltese. Never with my OES because she's so big and a tagalong but I still know that HEART ATTACK feeling. Sorry I think it's so funny. It's not during the moment!!
Poor Sue! That is scary not knowing where they are.

I'm sorry that the image of Bailey shooting out of the laundry room was so funny to me

I'm glad he's safe and accounted for.
I feel your pain!!! Tasker did that not too long ago. I got home from work and he is usually right there at the door to greet me. He wasn't. I looked and looked and called and called and NO TASKER. I was about to be hysterical when I noticed the door to the second bathroom closed, yup he'd done the same thing. I don't know why he didn't bark when he heard me call but there he was standing in the middle of the bathroom looking silly.

I remember how scared I was!!
Glad Bailey is safe :D

I just picture him standing behind the door not barking, but silently chanting...I'm right here mom....I'm right here mom...please come rescue me
Oooh - it is scary when that happens. I've done it a few time with the kitties - always scary!
Crumpet did that to us.......my husband was putting his coat away and the dog slipped into the closet unseen. We called and called for her, finally a very tiny whine came from the closet...........

Yes, why don't they bark??!! The other guys have gotten themselves stuck in rooms with closed doors.

Then last night I was going back to the hospital to visit husband recovering from back surgery and put Jack on the short chain so I could back out safely...................and forgot to take him off. 2 1/2 hours later I come home and there he still is on his 3 foot chain. Thankfully is was evening and the sun was nearly set not hot midday sun. 8O
Oh I hate it when that happens. Scares the pants off me. I haven't had that happen with Edgar yet but I have had it happen several times to me with Lee's BELOVED cat. Good way to make your heart race.
Lol. I can relate! Lucy locked herself in shower once and fell asleep in there. I came home from work and couldn't find her anywhere. After almost having a heart attack myself, I went into the bathroom and she was curled up in the corner of the shower, still sleeping soundly. Unlike Bailey, she just seemed annoyed with me for waking her up.
So glad Bailey was safe!! I know the feeling, too - feeling like your heart is going to jump right out of your mouth!!
I 'lost' my daughter like this once too! She was only about 6 months old and I had laid her on the floor beside my bed to change her nappy (diaper to you!) took off the nappy and left her to have a kick without it on while I took the soiled one away. When I came back in the room she was gone! I thought I was going mad as she was too young to have crawled anywhere and we were alone in the house. After a few moments I realised she had rolled under my bed and the valanced sheet had 'flapped' down behind her to completely hide her from view! Funny now but scary at the time!
Awwww poor Sue and Bail's....lol...silly boy....barking does come in handy every now and then......btw....when are you coming over???????
