growth on jowls

My daughter noticed a growth the other day on our OES's jowls. It is about the size of a pea, round and sort of lumpy in texture. The dog is 2 in August. No recent evidence of a bite, but he does go to camp one day a week and romp around with many other dogs. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? I will take him to the vet, but wanted some feedback on if this is common, unusual, serious, etc. Thanks.

Does it look like it could be a scab? Izzie sometimes has scabs that sound like what you are describing from rough play at daycare. I think because of the water saturation while drinking it makes the scab look different than normal.
Can you see it clearly through the fur? Is it red or irritated,
or open? Could be anything from a bug bite to a pimple.
My dogs are more likely to have bumps around the face and
neck from rough play than anywhere else on their bodies, but
they have also had an ingrown hair or pimple-like thing there
as well. Can you tell us anything more about this bump?

It could also be an engorged female tick.
Thanks for the feeback. To be more descriptive, it's pinkish/grayish (pretty much blends in with the rest of the area except for it is like a round ball that protrudes up from his jowls. It's not smooth - more lumpy like a raisin, and is just below one of his canine teeth). I think he might bite it when he eats. I am quite confident it's not a tick. It seems to bother him if I touch it. He is a fighter and a biter when he's with the other dogs - they play rough at doggie day camp.
Sounds like a wart or other type of skin growth. If it isn't bothering anything you can leave it, but if it bleeds or bothers you (or him) then you might want to have it aspirated and checked, or simply removed.

My first guy had many of these on his body, and one right near the edge of his lip. We left it alone, but it was small and out of the way.
