Exercise that won't hurt my hip

About 2 weeks ago I overdid my exercising (a rather vigorous video that included a lot of squats and lunges) and hurt my hip. The doctor thinks it's bursitis which should eventually go away. I want to continue exercising but am extremely leery. I know swimming would be good, but what other exercising wouldn't aggrevate my hip? How about walking? I know Zahra is going to say dancing, but I think that involves too much hip action!

Walking would be good, assuming that the pounding on the ground wouldn't hurt your hip either. If it does you could try walking on grass...much softer and actually a better workout.

What about biking? Does that hurt?
Aquafit classes are tons of fun, a great workout and very low impact!
I had bursitis after my leg was broken. It was so painful! The doctor said bursitis is usually an overuse injury. It was strange that I had it since I was laid up in bed. They think it was caused by the trauma. He prescribed rest, 2 alleve twice a day and ice for 20 minutes a few times per day. It really helped!
What did you decide on , Paula?
Holly, I haven't yet made a final decision. I like to do videos at home and I have a few that are very non-stressful. I'm also thinking about buying a bicycle (an outside bicycle). I work at a hospital and we have the opportunity to join the hospital's wellness/fitness center for half price 9it would cost me about $35 a month) so I might do that. In the meantime, I'm doing yoga. I rode Bob the Wonder Pony over the weekend for the first time in 2 weeks and did get a few hip twinges but nothing more materialized.

Hmmmm...lots of options.

  I do!!!

Just caught up to the thread-hope you are feeling better!

Yoga is a great option, you could also add a Classical stretch
dvd. I use Classical stretch alot and have found it helpful.

Of course, no belly dancing for right now Paula :D
Hey Zahra,

My gym is having a Zumba class on Memorial Day...I might have to go and check it out!

Have a great time! Let me know how you like it! :D
Paula have you tried "Curves for Women" It is a great program and you go through your paces in only about 30 minutes. I was in the program for over a year and had great results. When I am over the shingles I am going back.

I hope you are feeling better soon.

My mom HURT herself at Curves, so it's not always low impact. I guess she was using one of the machines incorrectly and they never corrected her so she damaged her knee...

Paula I am sorry to hear about your Mom. Curves really worked for me, and since it only took an half hour, it worked into my schedule.
Thanks Violet but it wasn't my mom. I think it was Barney's mom's mom (aka Barney's grandma).

Yep, it was my mom. She would be VERY upset to be called a grandma! Although, as she keeps mentioning to me, she'd LOVE to be a grandma at any time

And she really liked Curves before then. She liked how it was about a half an hour and that you didn't have to think about what you were going to do next. You just followed the circle of exercises and then you were done.
