Incontinance-2

Well,
I decided not to put stella on medication for her leakage, thinking she is too young, but the problem has gone form once or twice a week to two or tree times a day. She doesn't pee on the floor, she just wets herself. Many times it's just a half hour after being outside to pee.
She has had full urine work ups at the vet and there are no problems.
I am going to bring her back to the vet today and have more tests, but I have to tell you this is not easy.
I am really unsure of what to do at this point.

In the meantime, have you tried doggy diapers? I use them for Drez when she's on meds or isn't feeling well because she tends to "leak" during the night. Just a thought until you can get a better solution from the vet . . .
I'll be watching this thread to see what everyone says, and what your vet comes up with. My 8 year old girl Abby has exactly the problem you are describing (although, fortunately for us it isn't a daily occurrence , more like weekly) And our vet has ruled out spay incontinence, and UTI....we are continuing to have tests done too. :?
OK another urine culture and all is fine so Stella is going on a small dose of Phenylpropanolamine starting Monday.

My vet says I shouldn't worry about it, that this should do the trick. She says she has had successful results with this medication with many other dogs. We will start with a small dose and move up if needed.

Today (so far) Stella has leaked all over my bed, her bed and something tells me I should check her now. 8O

Wish us luck!
Oh Mark that is tough. :( I have no advice for you I just wanted to let you know we will keep our fingers crossed for a successful solution. Hang in there.

Hugs to sweet Stella.
:ghug:
I hope the medication helps Stella.
I hope the meds will fix her right up. I know it can be a difficult decision to start a medicine but sometimes it's necessary for both the comfort and wellbeing of both dog and human.
There are two meds for incontinence. We has Splash on one or the other for years. It didn't work, so she wore diapers all the time indoors. We found a brand with a denim outer layer that looked nice with sheepdog coat. We used people incontinence pads inside. We tried the pull up garments for people but those early models were too noisey. I understand now they are quieter. Daily cleaning back there prevented urine burn.

Anyway, after years we tried both pills together, they worked. Unfortunately by then Splash was getting up there in age.

So don't give up! Even if she has to wear a diaper, she's still a sheepdog, loving to the max.

oh my 8O
We put Sophie on meds after her spay. We considered delaying her spay precisely because she had occasional leakage when she slept, but she seemed to have outgrown it.

The medication works well, but word of caution: Sophie began to leak again after she was much larger, so the vet increased the doseage. Hopefully that will take care of her problem permanently. At almost 14 months, Sophie seems to have stopped growing.

The good news is that the meds are relatively inexpensive.
Poor Mark! Poor Stella! I don't have any experience with this, but I'm sending positive thoughts your way. Good luck!
We had Katrina (Rainbow Bridge :hearts: ) who took phenalpropanolamine for just a day or so, and she swelled up huge in her tummy area. I guess like a false pregnancy, even though she was spayed. So I immediately stopped the medication. That is when we first discovered our current vet that also does holistic practices as well, to try and find a solution for her. She did electroaccuscope treatments on her and gave her incontinence nosodes. Katrina was able to go with out medication from that point on. We had intermittent problems with puddles on the floor but would take her in for more holistic treatments and that was able to keep her in check for the most part. There were occassions when it was worse, I'm trying to remember.

Just recently, Hannah had a few drops of incontinence when I was brushing her. I immediately took her into the vet, she received kidney and incontinence iosodes, her kidney count was high by 5 points and also a spinal adjustment and an electroaccuscope treatment. So far, Knock on wood, she has shown no further signs of incontinence. I do know however I caught it at the very beginning. She is seven years old TODAY.

Good luck with Stella, she is lucky to have such a caring father. I highly recommend the alternative therapies. The electroaccuscope is also excellent for arthritis and hip displasia and for their overall health in general.
Well stella had her first pill yesterday and she vomited all night. I am trying one more today, thinking it may have been the heat or the fact that she played hard right before. If there are more problems then I throw the pills away and just deal with it. The alternative therapy sounds great. I will research it.
Mark
Update: One pill a day (50 mg) and not one accident in a week.
This is working.
Oh, that's great! I hope this will be the solution...
Yay!! That is great news. :D :D
I second that YAY! :clappurple:
That's wonderful. Anyone that has a dog
with piddle-problems shares your joy and relief :D
Thanks for the update!
Yay!! Finally some good news! You've been such a trooper. Hope it continues to help.
