Help our 7 month of sheepie is missing!!

We went out to dinner tonight and before we left both of our dogs were in the back yard (fenced in). We made sure the lock was fastened just like we always do and when we came back Jules was gone! We have searched high and low in our neighborhood and the surrounding neighborhoods. I have called animal control (not open). I have called the only vet open tonight (emergency clinic) and they took down a description. Please any advice on what to do tomorrow. We love her so much...she is part of our family. I have a sinking feeling she was stolen. What is even worse is that she has not had dinner yet. I was going to feed them when we got home. Our dog Jenny who was still in the back yard has not eaten a single bite yet. I am writing flyers tonight and am going to all the vets tomorrow.

Oh God Weezie, I am soo sorry you are going through this! *hugs*
I would call all rescue contacts, and any pounds or shelters and vets and police.... everyone. I wish I was closer, I would be out walking the streets looking, if there is anything at all I can do to help let me know...
You'll find her! *hugs*
Weezie, if you're up and can't sleep and want to chat, you can either pm me, or if you have any of the instant messengers I pretty much have them all.... just click the buttons at the bottom of my post.
Oh Weezie that makes me so sad. Post flyers everywhere, including schools, churches, libraries. Talk to everyone in your neighborhood. Call the pounds, shelters, vets. Have everyone in your family walk different parts of the neighborhood and beyond. I am sending prayers your way that Jules is found safe and sound.

Paula O.
Weezie,

I'm sorry! I hope by the time you read this Jules will be home safe & sound! Please stay strong! Our OES virtual family went through this before and we'll do whatever we can to help!

Post flyers, Call every Vet in the area (and beyond), put an ad in the local newspaper Lost & Found, Call all of the Humane Societies, Local Pounds/Shelters, Dog Officer, etc.

You can post a LOST Dog ad on Petfinder www.petfinder.com
and you can also go to www.lostdog.com and post an ad there as well. You will be able to search any FOUND dogs in both those sites.

Notify ALL Rescues in the area - there's an OES Rescue for the South - contact them www.oesrescuenetwork.org

Please give us all a description of Jules - and I will pass the word along to the OES and Beardie Communities!

Hang in there! HUGS!
Kristen
Yikes! My heart is just racing thinking about loosing one of mine! I have seen listings for help on Petfinder...lost as well as found OES! Maybe the OES of the Southeast could put it up for you!!?? http://www.oesrescuenetwork.org/contacts.htm
Jules will come home & have a real story to tell you...whooorooroooo!!!
Good Luck!
PS Call the police and/or sherriff... or is that allowed?
Weezie I hope all turns out well and you find Jules soon! You all will be in my thoughts and prayers 8)
Thank you all for all the support and links. I just got back from the New Hanover County Animal Control, the Humane Society, most of the local animal hospitals, have called ALL the animal hospitals and will be sending flyers to them via fax. I have posted flyers in all the surrounding neighborhoods. I feel quite certain that she was stolen because we have surveillance/security cameras pointing in to the back yard and we ran the tapes when we got home and saw her on camera 12 minutes before we got home. We saw her run to the other side of the yard where we have no cameras ( we also have a gate over there ), and never came back. Our other dog Jenny (border collie mix) was still in the fenced in yard when we got back. Both gates were shut. She was only unaccounted for for 12 minutes and we immediately began searching for her. I called the police and they said "Dogs get out" and I said "I want to file a police report", they finally took one. I am going to all the links you provided. Thank you again. I have been crying all morning long.
Weezie,

Please give us a description too! I'll post it to to the OES and Beardie people to have them on the look out!

Was Jules spayed???
No, She was not spayed. She is a female 7 month old pure OES. I just tried to upload a picture of mine to my avatar but it said it was too great in size. I don't know how to shrink it. She is black (starting to turn grey) with a white head. She has a right black eye. She is medium build. Probably now about 45-48 pounds. She has long fur (never been shaved). Shes responds to Jules or "Ju Ju". Her eyes are rimmed in black like she has black eye-liner on. Her eyes are brown. The top of her nose has that pinkish tint as well as parts of her skin. She is so sweet. My house is so quiet. Too quiet. Thank you so much for all your help.
I wonder if she was going into heat and made a break to find a boyfriend - that is not unusual! However, this could also be a purpose of stealing her - for breeding! :(

I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers! I'll be praying to St. Anthony for her safe return home!

Kristen
Weezie! I need more info - what's your email address and/or phone # for someone to contact you - and where do you live (City ???)

Thanks!
I have been over every possible scenario. The thought of someone breeding her just crawls under my skin. Nightmares of cross-breeding, and them not taking care of her. The worst is that she wants to come home. Thank you
Here is the contact information: [deleted by request, now that Jules' situation has been resolved. Read on.]
I have posted to the Beardie Yahoo Group and the OES-List. Hang in there and keep us updated as often as possible (I know how frantic and busy you must be!).

Last winter another OES owner lost her dog (he slipped out of his collar at the groomer! :o ) and was missing for 4 days before some kids in the neighborhood found him and their father remembered seeing all the flyers all over and brought him back to the owners! Don't give up - Jules will be found!

Make sure to notify the kids at the schools - word spreads quickly and maybe someone saw something!

Kristen
Weezie if you want to email me pictures I can shrink them down and post them for you.... I PM'd you my personal email address.
Weezie,
I can empathize with you. I am the owner of Merlin who went missing for 4 days in February from the groomer. Dont give up hope. Send or post as many flyers as you can. Call the schools in your area, they will let the kids in the school know that a dog is missing. Keep on the police. Visit the local shelters, dont just call. Sometimes the people working in the shelters are not familiar with the OES. Put an ad in your local paper. We put in a full page ad with merlin's pics. I got lots of calls after that, but luckily Merlin was found the day before the paper came out. Merlin was found because of the flyers we made and posted in the area.
Dont give up. Let us know if we can do anything for you.
Your precious Jules will be found.
Hugs
Weezie,

There are several people praying for Jules safe return home. I've already received emails from Beardie people who have contacted their Beardie contacts and/or friends in the area and have them on the lookout! Others are sending White Light!

Kristen
Weezie,

I don't know how much help it will be, but I am also on other animal forums and will let them know to be on the look out, I wil praying for Jules safe return.
Hugs, Stormi
This is a picture of Jules that weezie sent me....

Oh gosh! Just came upon this post! I am sooo sorry! If there is anything I can do..... I am sure that Jules will be found soon! I will pray for her safe and prompt return home! Please keep us updated on the situation!
i'm so sorry...

this happened to my dad about 28 years ago. you see he had a very rare, beautiful white afghan about 4yrs old named TJ.

TJ was at that time one of only 5-15 white afghans in the US. he was show quality and groomed to the T.

one day my mom and dad came home from a matinee movie to find him gone. he had to be stolen because the privacy fence was 6 feet and it was locked when they left, and locked when they came home.

it really sucks. today 28 yrs later my dad still is upset. my mom and dad now have a beautiful briard. in fact even though my parents live in a upper-middle class area they still have scene sketchy people eyeing her (sheaba the briard) up...even coming over to our yard to look at her.
beware...and remember to get you dodgy micro-chipped.

best of luck...my heart is with you.

Thank you everyone for all the wonderful support today. There were only a few times I could check the computer. Let me tell you the story. I went to/contacted every animal hospital in my county and some in surrounding counties. We put up 50 flyers, called the radio stations, started an e-mail chain to neighbors in the surrounding neighborhoods, called the police and of upmost importance contacted my friends here on the board. After all this I got a phone call from a lady that said she saw one of the flyers and saw her "flying like the wind" down a major road last night but could not stop because she was so fast. She said cars were braking left and right. We went to that area this afternoon and searched by car for 3 hours solid. I was in one car and my husband was in another. He said that he was in some woods about 2 miles away when he was about to give up and leave this road that he had been down twice. He looked in his rear view one last time and saw Jules peek her head out from underneath an abandoned car. When they went to her she collapsed with joy and cried her heart out. She has been outside for almost 24 hours in 80-89 degree heat. We took her home and gave her water and food. Our neighbor across the street is a vet and came over and checked her out. Her back paws were cut up and her toe nail all worn down. When she sits her back legs shake, but she is sore from all the running. We don't know why she ran because she is NOT a wanderer... but as we sit back and think about it there were fireworks at the college about 4 miles away last night. She is exausted and sleeping back in our cool house where she belongs. My heart goes out to everyone. Thank you again. P.S. I am glad she was not stolen but tomorrow I am getting her microchiped 1st thing!!
Weezie,

Oh, that is the news I was hoping to hear when I came back to the board! I am glad that she is home safe and sound. GIve her a big hug for me and hug for you. Stormi and co.
A big YAHOO from me and a wiggle butt WOOF from Drake, I had been thinking of you both all day. Glad all turned out well! Jules is a really beautiful pup 8)

I am soooo glad you found her! Yaaaaay!!!!!!

We are overjoyed...yipeeeeee! Tears of joy are being licked from my face!
What a nightmare for your family & poor Jules...Sooooooo glad she is HOME! :D
Phewww! Thank goodness! I have also been thinking about this all day! How did she get out!? I am glad that she is home safe and sound! :D :D
*hugs* to her and your family!
Thank god. So glad to hear all is well....such a terrible thought to have a pet stolen for no good.....

I'm sure she is going to sleep very well tonight!
We don't know how she got out unless she sailed the fence after she heard the fireworks. Our other dog Jenny is petrified of fireworks and that may have rubbed off. We have a 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 scalloped fence with decorative wood points on the top if she landed on them. There were no holes dug and the fence gates were latched. One theory is that some children wanted to play with her and maybe let her our by accident, then they shut the gate. Oh well...we will never know. I can't live through that again. We have never been so happy as to see her today. It is amazing. You really come to realize they can not be replaced. They are like people...there is never another one like that one. We have not seen any spunk in her at all though. She is sleeping and hobbling around. She is moving like a 13 year old sheepie. We are going to take her to our vet in the morning. We did not eat all day so my husband went out and got us some fish and veggies. I ate my veggies but gave my warm fish to Jules. I love her!!
I am so happy you found your baby!
I used to live in Jacksonville and was about to call out the Marines.....

Years ago I lost 3 OES to being stolen. I never did find them.

My babies do not go out of my yard now that I am not with them. The back yard (much to our landlord's dimay) has a lock on the gate.

Welcome your baby home, lots of huggs and kisses !!

I still keep my eyes open for my Mickey girl.....
I just imagine her happy and heatlhy.... maybe I'll see her again someday...
I am SO glad Jules was found. I know how relieved you must feel.
She might have hopped the fence, my previous sheepie jumped over a 5 1/2 foot fence and lucky for us he just walked to our front door and woofed to come in!
I never leave my Merlin outside unattended, even tho he would have to open 3 gates to get out of his yard  Losing him is still too fresh in my mind.
Hugs
This experience was too traumatic for us to ever leave our dogs again in the backyard when we are not home. For a while today I felt total despair. We felt like our chances were around 20%. Thank you again for all your prayers...They worked!!
I'm so happy all turned out well!! Now, please, increase the fence height. 4 1/2 is plenty low for a sheepie to scale...especially with fireworks in the sky. Next time it might just be lightning that sets her off. Kisses and soft rubs for her sore muscles.
Here is another pic weezie sent me of Jules after she has been brought home safely, fed, watered, and bathed.... and exhausted!

She looks very happy to be home!
We are all so happy :P Jules is back at home and safe. How terrifying!

I bet she's one happy sheepies.

Weezie, please give her a big hug for us!
Weezie,

I'm thrilled to wake up this morning and see that you found Jules! Give her a hug from me!

I'm sure she scaled the fence - not unusual for a sheepie! No more alone time in the yard for Jules!

Kristen
Weezie, this is such good news. Give Jules a tummy rub from me.

Paula O.
Wow, this is a great ending to a terrible nightmare. It is just amazing she did not get hit by a car. I took her to the vet today and they gave her a blood workup. Everything was normal except her glucose is high. Probably still from the adrenaline? She has antibiotics for the cuts in her feet and is on Rimadyle for pain. Thank you again everyone. We just love our sheepies!!
Weezie,

I am so glad that Jules is doing well. You are right, a VERY happy ending. I had also contacted the Ragdoll forum I am on about Jules and posted the good news this morning. Everyone over there was praying for her return and thrilled that she was home safe and sound. She is a beautiful girl in both pictures. I can't wait to see more. hint, hint.....LOL. Give her a good belly rub for me....Storm and co.
thank god...you are very lucky. i'm thrilled that you found her.
 :D  :D
The photos of Jule is so cute! This is like almost reading a novel with the low points, high points, and a happy ending! Congratulations!

Lennon and Sofa send their best Woofs!
I'm also very late as I hadn't been online since June and only recently returned to this site. Weezie I am so happy that things turned out for the best. Ohmygawd I too held my breath and felt utter dismay when first reading the story and as it unfolded I let out my breath and felt happiness.

So glad she was found!!!

Marianne
Marianne, Thank you again. I was re-reading this post and remembering how frightened and sad we were. Jules is fine now. She is beautiful and will be one year old January 19th. We made sure she was inside on New Years Eve for we feared we would hear fireworks outside. Sure enough we did. What a great forum this is.
WOW!!! I READ THIS STORY AND I WAS SOOO FRIGHTENED!! I CAN'T IMAGINE THOSE DAYS FOR YOU !!....BUT I'M REALLY GLAD THAT JULE'S BETTER :D I'M REALLY REALLY HAPPY !! GOD BLESS JULES !

HUGS !!AND GIVE JULES A HUG TOO! :D
