Some of you may have noticed that I had not been in chat, nor posting very often recently. I have been very ill will Shingles on the right hand side of my face, mouth and ear. It has been a very tuff illness and will cycle through in 30 days they say. I hope so, because if that is true, I am halfway home. I am doing better. The dr. said I am lucky my face is not paralysed, so I agree, I am lucky, not pretty to look at with all the scabs and blisters.(no there will be no pictures. When it is over I don't want any memories of it left.) When people say shingles are painful, they truely are. Anyway, enough of me and back to my original declaration. While I have been quite ill, Old English, Wendy1976 & Pepsi's Mommy have been sending me messages over the internet. These notes have been of concern, best wishes, hurry up and get better to get back on line. lol They will never ever know how much their messages have helped me through this terrible time. Each day there was a note from them. My husband would sit down to the computer and read them off to me. Even though for most of the time I couldn't respond, they brought a smile to my mind. (my lips, jaw, and mouth too sore to smile). I want to thank them again for all they have done and I wanted the OES.ORG forum to know how lucky each of us are to know these three great people. Sincerely, Violet |

xo, |
I would like to thank everyone for their thoughtful words regarding my illness. This Forum has the best people. Your comments do keep my spirits up.
Recovery is moving slowly, at least in my opinion, lol, but most of the blisters on my face and chin have healed, only a few left there. My chin is still numb, and my tongue causes a lot of pain. The swelling on my face is pretty much gone. My lips still have some blistering, but everything is going as expected. I go back to the dr on Wed. hopefully there will be good news. Thank you everyone! |
Hope you get well as soon as possible. |
Oooooooh a tongue with pain. yucko.
Joan wants to know if I can catch that over a forum. Hey. No laughing. HEAL! |
Oh Helen, sorry you've been so poorly, shingles is sooo painful. Lets hope its a speedy recovery |
SHINGLES UPDATE........I went to the dr yesterday and he said I am healing much faster then he espected. My face is coming along. I still have numbness in my chin, and my lips are puffy and chapped a few scabs are still about. Inside of my ear the blisters are starting to heal. The part that couses me the most pain is my tongue. It is still painful. My dr. perscribed me a mouth wash to use four times a day. Now to quote the dr. "you have to try and keep it in your mouth one minute. It is going to seem like the longest minute of your life." When he said that, I could only imagine how this mouth wash is going to taste. My Pharmacist is mixing up the concoction as I type. Hopefully, my tongue and my gums will start to heal faster. It has been very quiet at my house since i can't really talk.
Thank everyone again for their concern during my illness. I appreciate all of your messages of goodwill. |

Thank everyone again for their concern during my illness. I appreciate all of your messages of goodwill. Yech....you have my sympathy...I can barely have listerine in my mouth for more than 30 seconds My sister had a bout of shingles last fall, but it wasn't nearly as bad as what you are experiencing. Hope you feel better soon |

Yes Helen, they are special, I agree!
As are you! I am so sorry you have been suffering with shingles which I know is extremely painful. Best wishes on your continued recovery and many others care and wish you well, too. |
Shingles update: I went to the dr yesterday(wed) and he is concerned with the paralysis on my face and expecially my eyelid, so I am back on steroids, He said the steroids will help the swelling go down. My lips are still swollen and chapped, tongue has blisters, some inner ear pain. Skin on cheek feels like rug burn. A couple of blisters still healing on chin. Right side of face still swollen, but going down. Most of the week has been pretty ruff, but I feel a little better right now, at 2:30 in the morning lol.
The dr said the paralysis comes from the swelling where the nerve and muscle get seperated and the blood is cut off from the nerve. Once the swelling goes down the nerve and muscle should connect and everything should go back to normal. Isn't this supposed to cycle through in 30 days, this is the longest 30 days of my life. lol Thank you everyone for your notes of concern, you have kept my spirits up. I go to the dr again next week. I know I'll be better by then. I hope eveyone is enjoying Spring. |
I hope the steroids go to work fast. Hang in there Helen. We are all thinking of you. |
I hope you feel even better sooner! |

SHINGLES UPDATE wed 5/16/07
I went to the dr today, saw a different dr because mine is on vacation. I had a very bad painful weekend so I am now on much stronger pain meds. My eye lid is still showing signs of paralysis so I have to keep it covered if I go outside. The "feeling" is coming back more in my cheek, starting to see some movement when I smile. Jaw, gum, teeth, ear canal still sore, but less swollen. Tongue still has many sores on it, and numb on the right side. Lips are still swollen and chapped. Dr said it will take a while to recover from, but if I need anything to just call them. I go back in two weeks. I want to thank everyone for all the support you have given me during this time. It is only up from here! |
Hang in there Helen!!
Good thing you are getting some improvement. |
Sorry to read that you are poorly!!
Hope you get better soon! Sheepie hugs to you! |
