Everything is going great. I'm in my second trimester as of yesterday (13 weeks, hoorah!). All my blood work looks good, and baby is growing fast, and doing great. Mike and I got to listen to the heartbeat yesterday, which was amazing. I couldn't wipe the huge smile off my face! The Dr used a doppler machine (she said it is sorta like a doppler radar, only much smaller). It took a while to find the baby (that was a little scary) but after a minute or two, there it was! And then it moved on her, and she had to find it again Just like daddy, always up to trouble!! We'll be able to have the "big" ultrasound at week 20, about mid june. We'll be finding out the sex and I'll be sure to post the ultrasound pics! Mike and I are in the hashing out names phase. Nothing even close firm yet. He blew off all but one of my suggestions. He didn't like Benjamin, Cecille, or Laurel, but he did like Lily, and sorta liked Evelyn. (I think Evelyn Rose is SOOO pretty!) Feel free to post any suggestions that would sound nice with a 3 syllable last name. |

What a wonderful update! I know you are so excited! I reallly like the name Lily. I recently heard someone mention a Lila which I thought was pretty too. A friend of mine just gave birth to an Emma. It's cute but seems to be more common since the days of the tv show "Friends" |
Karen,
Are you sure you want people's opinions on names? That can be dangerous! |
Oh! I'm so excited for you!! Boys names seem to be the hardest to pick. Whatever name I came up with, my husband would say, "Geez, I knew a kid with that name in grade school and he was such a jerk!" Girls names (as you get closer) are much easier to pick. Congrats again, and thanks for the update. |
God bless you, Karen! Thanks for the update, and I'm so glad things are progressing well!!
You really want to know the sex of the baby? We played the name game too. Bought a name book and in the back I listed my faves, and Dale listed his. NONE matched!! I was set on Spencer but couldn't quite get him on board. We took the book to the hospital, showed the names to the nurses, they picked Spencer - SOLD!! ("It wasn't my choice, honey - it was the nurses'!") Now 25 years later, neither of us could imagine him with any other name. Our girl name if he was a girl was Sarah, a family name on both sides. Child #2 was a girl, so she got the Sarah name. Have fun! |

Ronald is a very regal name, don't you think?
Anyway, I know everyone is tired of me looking to have someone or somepup named "Ron", so here are some suggestions of other names that I've come up with.... randomly. They just sound nice to me. Boys names Aaron (Aron) Akron Tyrone (Tyron) Byron Cameron Myron Theron Daron (Darron) Girls names Rhonda (Ronda) Sharon (Sharron) Veronica (Veronique, Veronika) Karon Sharonda Rona (Ronna Verona) Here are the lists of first (male), first (female) and full from the 1990 Census: http://www.census.gov/genealogy/names/names_files.html Have fun! |
Ron wrote: Ronald is a very regal name, don't you think?
Yes, it is. Think how regal Ronald McDonald is |
Ron wrote: Ronald is a very regal name, don't you think?
Will someone PLEASE just name their kid Ron so we can just move on Karen, I think it should be you |
Thanks everyone! Yep- I'm pretty decided about knowing the baby's sex ahead of time. It'll make shopping, decorating and naming easier. Plus I feel like I want to know EVERYTHING I can about my baby right away.
You guys are killing me! Rona Verona... umm yeah, I don't think that's making the list somehow. Darcy... I may try to sneak your name in on the boy list. I've always loved Pride and Prejudice. Darcy Paul is nice, right?! Why do I think Mike's not gonna jump on that though??? Harrumph! Cameron I like, that's very nice. If there was a baby Katherine, she would DEFINITELY have to be a "Kat" OR "Kate". I like traditional girl names Elizabeth (Lizzy!), Katherine, and Anne, but I feel like they're SO overused! Practically 2/3 of the gals I grew up with were one of those 3 names. |
Iriskmj wrote: Cameron I like, that's very nice. Would you do that for a boy or girl? I have friends who are pregnant right now (for the 2nd time in a year!) and for both times they didn't find out the sex and they chose a name that they would use whether or not it was a boy or girl, just used a different middle name. That's kind of a fun way to do it (not for me, though--I'd need to know!) |

Karen, thanks for the update.....Sounds like little bean is growing just great! For my second pregnancy my second was SO much more active than my first and I carried different too...we assumed that it would be a boy....we had the name picked out 'Avery Malcolm', the week before I was to deliver we found out it was a girl...Yikes we had no name picked out we were calling the little bean Avery all along...yes I know that is a unisex name but I just didn't want to use Avery for my little girl...daddy ended up picking out her name.... when I was having my 4th...yes you read that right, my 4th..... I assumed that I would be having another girl as the other 3 are girls....I went into the ultrasound and never knew the sex of the first 3, they could never tell....anyway the tech said to me...have you picked a name...all proud I said yes I have 'Emma Charlotte', she looked at me and said deadpan...that's a nice name but I think you might want to change that.....we didn't really even have a boys name at the time LOL |
Quote: Would you do that for a boy or girl?
Boy definitely. Cameron just isn't feminine enough for me to use for a girl. (begging Ms Diaz' pardon!) Cameron just screams handsome rugged GUY to me. |

Cameron just screams handsome rugged GUY to me. Great. I'll probably have to print out and frame this quote for my husband (It's his name) He also used to tell me that if he married Cameron Diaz it'd be cool because they'd both have the same name |

(My name is Laurel) My personal favorites: Hannah or Morgan (girls) Nicholas or Sebastian (boys) |
I (personally) love the name Hannah...very traditional!!!!! |
Sebastian always reminds me of Poison or of a Great Pyrenees...from that kids' cartoon from the 80s Belle and Sebastian (although I think the dog was Belle) |
I can run through my numerous nieces and nephews: (with middles I can remember) -
Katie Jo, Heather Lynn, Melissa, Amanda, Ryan Matthew, James, Lance Mitchell, Katherine Winona (Kate), Michal Gabrielle (girl), Nicholas Everett, Gregg, Rachel, LeAnne Marie, Lisa Louise, Travis Gregory, Erin Kay, Spencer Alan, Kacie Nicole, Jarrett, Samantha Kay, McKenzie Jaye (girl), Alexandra Shay, Christian (boy), Tabitha, Logan, Landon.Jordan (girl) |

There are the so-called "newer versions" of the traditional names....like Ava or Anya rather than Anne? Ellie or Ella for Elizabeth... It really is hard to find a name that isn't wildly over used. They just become trendy SO fast!! |
I can spend hours searching baby name websites. It's great to hear you're doing well. As for the ultrasound, both of mine had their legs crossed so we never knew the gender.
As it is, they spend their first few months in a basinet, so you can have plenty of time decorating up a nursery, and making it perfect for when you move them into their room and out of yours. Esp since they spend soooo much time sleeping those first weeks. |
I've already been scoping out bassinets. We have the crib all ready to go. I can't decide if I want a super frilly, utterly adorable little princess bassinet (which would only work for a little girl), or a more utilitarian one, that has a stand, and removable bed section. the romanti cin me says super frilly, the realist says utilitarian. (Luckily, even those are cute1)
Dawn, that's quite the list of nieces and nephews. There are 13 of us on my mom's side, and I thought that was a ton of kids!!! (I have the honor of being the first of my generation to have a baby, on my mom's entire side- paternal and maternal! There are lots of great aunties eagerly anticipating October!!!) |
I just know this time I am not buying a single thing (nursery stuff), until we bring the baby home. Because I went all prepared for neutral with #1,(Winnie the Pooh and yellow) and #2 we bought after we brought him home.
I liked what we bought for #2 much better....African theme. #3 will most likely be contemporary, lime greens and bright colors...we'll see. I already have my playpen/bassinet, and I got my original bassinet back. I really want a glider rocker this time. So do you guys have a list of names, we can help if you give a poll of favorites. |
Don named both of our boys... He didn't like any names I wanted, so I just gave in...
My choices were Mitchell (Mitch) , Roland, Malcolm......and Danielle, Martine, and Natalie.. |
Glad you and the bean are doing well. We had a hard time picking names for our two. My hubby wanted the boys name to sound just right over the loud speaker so when baby boy got to the be high school star it would sound good. Thank goodness we had girls - there names work for pa announcements too but so much less pressure.
Good luck |
Anything Jane Austen is a great start- I would name any future son Bingley but I'm sure he would get picked on in many areas of his life. Darcy and Lizzy are wonderful names and very strong sounding. |
Searching baby names from Ron's list..........Susan is #8????? They must all live elsewhere, I've known only 1 other in my life. |
They must all live in MN!!! |
I know about 100 Susans
I'm way over my limit. |
Thanks for the update Karen. Isn't it amazing hearing their heartbeats?
I had a few names picked out. Hayley was going to be Heather (which is no longer a popular name, which was perfect... I didn't want popular) But we decided on Rose for a middle name so we went with Hayley instead. After we mentioned the name Heather Rose to my Aunt she said Oh, I will call her Blossom or Flower...As soon as I heard that I realized her first and middle name could not be both flowers. I have grown to love the name Hayley, even though I seem to be saying it every two seconds these days. "Hayley, No!" "Hayley, don't do that!" lol I had planned years ago after my Great Grandmother died that I would use a "D" name and name a girl after her. I had chose Danielle. But by the time I had Hayley we already had two boys in the family named after her. So I chose to name Hayley after my Paternal Grandmother "Helen Rose" but obviously not use the name Helen as to me it was an old lady name, so we just went with and "H" name. I liked Hannah, Hayley and Heather. My Dad said he only knew of old woman named Hannah, he said it wasn't a baby name. (it's actually a very popular baby name) But I was with Dad on that one and Hannah fell out of the name race. Ryan was always Ryan, from the day I knew I was having a boy. I had always wanted to name my son Ryan Michael. He ended up as Ryan Todd (his Dad's first name) But at least I got to name him Ryan. |
My son's middle name is Cameron |

Psssst, it was Skid Row! |
Karen - I'm living vicariously through you. Just so you know! . . .
Names are tough because you want them to not only sound and look nice but almost convey a sense of personality. You like Cameron maybe for a boy. I have seen this used for a girl: Kamryn. If you like old-fashioned type names I have always loved the name Josephine for a girl - it's my great-grandmother's name. Another unusual boy name is Adin. I don't know how you are going to decide. I imagine some of it has to do with how you're feeling at the moment, like crazy, calm, reflective, adventurous . . .!!!!! |
Have you thought of: Baby 1 Baby 2 Baby 3 etc? Now THAT would be unique! |
Glad to hear all is well
I like: Boys: Dylan Dalyn Jacob Ron* Ronaldo** Girls: Laurel Lauren Laura Jaeden Micaela Rhonda* Ronita** *[added by the System Admin] **[added by the other Admin ] |
Awwwww, how sweet of you, Willowsprite.
All my best, The System Admin |
Geez...talk about a shameless plug!!!! |

ACK! I KNEW I'd mess that up...It DOES remind me of Poison, even though it's the wrong band. (I wasn't allowed to listen to big hair bands or watch MTV growing up--I'm still socially scarred!) |
You guys are always good for a giggle!
Last time Mike and I had a naming discussion, I didn't write anything down. so now I can't remember ANY of the names he said. Except Joseph. That's a family name, both my maternal grandfather (and great grandfather) and a paternal cousin are named "Joseph". I like that, but Mike already has a cousin with the same exact name. When I pointed that out, he said "So???". I thought it would get confusing! Humm. I have enough name confusion in my life without adding in another! |
This is a name I wanted to use but never could since I had three boys and only one girl: Heather Brooke
Good luck with whichever name you choose. |
[. So I chose to name Hayley after my Paternal Grandmother "Helen Rose" but obviously not use the name Helen as to me it was an old lady name, quote from Pepsi's Mommy
(lol) |
