The last two mornings I have gone in where she sleeps and she has thrown up everywhere. All over her bedding and floor, walls you name it. This morning was a huge clump of grass, hair & stomach bile, thank goodness. She is eating well, I have put her on a lighter diet till tomorrow to see how tonight goes. She is happy and no temperature, just watching her when she goes outside to stop her munching like a cow. as I have had enough of cleaning up & washing all her bedding early the next morning. Anyone else have this problem from time to time and why the heck do they do it? And no she is not ill, her poops are firm, interested in any food, just mad on grass at the moment. She is going into the bath ASAP, toxic bomb at the moment YUCK, just want to see what happens tonight and if she chucks again before hitting the bath tub. |

For some reason we decided that periodic grass eating was a result of an upset tummy.
We used to give either Tums (calcium carbonate tummy pill) or some Tagamet for a while to calm down the tummy. |
Breena does that too. She loves to eat grass and then throw it up. I asked the vet and he said eating grass has nothing to do with upset tummies but eating too much will give them an upset tummy. I take Breena out on a leash to go potty so I can monitor her grass intake. The vet can give you meds to calm the over grazed tummy. |
Poor girl! I have a cow too, but for whatever reason
mine doesn't throw it up. Thank goodness too, because he seems to graze constantly. My other dog 'is a dog' and doesn't seem to do it anymore. He used to when he was little, but he is still young so maybe that will change again. Usually with my other dogs who did bring it back up it was a very short lived thing, just a few heaves and nothing more. Never got the skitters or disinterested in food. I would guess a tums or a pepto type thing would help. I really don't know why they do this, although I have heard several things, most of which seem more like guesses or old wives tales. It seems like a lot of dogs do this - so maybe there really is a reason? Shellie |
My Macy has always been a cow, and it never makes her sick. She is my 13 y.o. chocolate lab. I used to make her stop, but I just gave up years ago. |
I have two cows.
Occassionally they will throw it up, but they are always munching on the rye and bermuda grass. |
Mooing all the way here too. Miss Ellie can find a blade of grass in the middle of winter. Then I find it, usually with my bare foot, after she throws it up. |
's here. |
No sickies last night YAY, think the big pile of grass she chucked up yesterday morning might of helped there WOO HOO.
She is definately suffering Mad Cows Disease I wonder if it is because of the drought and no grass and now new shoots of green grass appearing. Still would love to know why they do it, she has done it off an on for years, just this time it's like obssession, have to go outside with her to stop her from grazing like a mad cow. INTO THE BATH WITH MY STINK BOMB COW TODAY Moooo |
Remy likes to grab grass on walks...it is like a game with her. Like how we would pull our fingers through tall grass or wheat in the fields. She does this with her mouth, and then occassionally eats some. |
Perhaps the vets are right that say it has nothing to do with stomach upset, but the antacids seemed to help... |
I always thought they ate the grass for medical reasons...either they are getting something from the grass missing in their diet r they eat it t thrw up smething that didn't agree with them
Maybe she just thought she'd save you some money on mowing and yu can spend the money on a toy for her instead! Hope she is feeling better... |
MO eats grass from the moment it starts growing in the spring until it dies in the winter. She loves it and I love picking it back up a few hours later vomited onto the floor (always carpet not tile) or on my husband's bed . Fortuantely a lot does get through her digestive system, but not always completely out the back port.......
Just a point, these last few weeks I've been giving her a teaspoon of yogurt twice a day........and the grass eating has stopped. So maybe it is digestive related. Watch, tomorrow she'll be back grazing.........dogs. |
