Stung by a bee: (

Big whiner that I am, no one is home to complain to, and it really really hurts! LOL
A bee snuck into my sandal and stung my big toe.
I can't find the stinger either, but I can feel it in there.... I think you're supposed to put a bit of baking soda and water in a paste to draw out the stinger? I don't remember....

I've heard of Meat Tenderizer! Try them all! They do hurt!
Don't know if you smoke or not, but they say tobacco out of a cigarette will take the sting out. Just damped it a little bit and hold it in on with a band-aid. You are right they do hurt! Don't worry, I am a big baby too.
LOL... I tried baking soda, and meat tenderizer (the powder, not the hammer, lol) and tobacco (yes I do smoke, nasty habit that it is)
It's still stuck in there, and my whole foot is throbbing at this point. LOL
My big toe looks like a plum. LOL It hurts, but I am laughing about it, because my kids are laughing at me for being a baby about it. My daughter offered to pull out the stinger using a sewing needle and tweezers, which is what I would do for my kids. Next time one of my kids gets stung by a bee and screams their ever-lovin little heads off, I will NOT say "oh it doesn't hurt that bad!" Never again!!!
I guess I'll have to leave it till hubby gets home and let him dig it out...
Hi Willowsprite, I had a similar experience and it was after my kids had first aid, they got the stinger out with a tweezer and magnifying glass. If you have any antihistimines take the normal dose it will help and an ice pack and elevate your foot. I hope you feel better, and the best medicine is no cooking tonight. LOL I am serious and hope you are ok. Dolores
Hmmm. Do you know if you are allergic to bee stings? Its good that the sting is so far down your body. The farther away from the head the better. I would get the sting out as soon as possible, so it doesn't get infected. If hubby can't get it out, I would go to the emergency room. Keep us posted. Have you tried squeezing it out like you would a zit? Gross, I know, but you have to get it out.
Use a credit card to scrape across the area. If any of the stinger is exposed it will get pulled out by this. Ice the area, elevate foot and if you have any excess swelling or difficulty breathing get help right away. Otherwise, try to get the swelling down and then the stinger may become more exposed.
I never used to be allergic to bees, but I have had a hard time breathing last night and this morning. I think I got the stinger out, most of it anyway.
I took an antihistamine this morning and am keeping my inhalers close... but it doesn't hurt too much now, and the swelling has gone down.
Hmmm. Just make sure you go to the doctor if you aren't feeling better. Anyone with asthma has a high risk of breathing passages closing off due to a sting. But thankfully yours was on your toe. Still, contunue taking antihistamins for a while. Phewww. 8O
With bee stings, where the stinger is pulled from the insect, you scrape the stinger off with the credit card as mentioned. You don't try to pull it out because you will inject the rest of the venom. There's a little sac at the end of the stinger that continues to pump the stuff in. Flick, don't squeeze.

If it was a wasp sting, they stinger stays with the wasp so they can continue to sting.

Don't be a sissy about this, talk to your doctor. You may need to get a prescription for an epi-pen....epenephrin injector. The next sting may be the one that triggers serious complications that 911 may not be able to reach you in time.

Also keep Benedryl on had, puppers can also have reactions to bee stings.
Willowsprite,

You can become more allergic/reactive to Bee Stings with each sting! Please be sure to get an Epi Pen for any future stings - because it can get worse each time! Air on the side of caution! The allergic reaction can happen quickly and can be life threatening - especially with someone with asthma!

Kristen
Hey Willow! How are you doing???? Feeling better?
That bee sting ever heal?
Hi Willowsprite,

Offering support here...owwwww and it hurts like heck doesn't it? One thing worth mentioning if anyone here gets stung by a insect and doesn't have antihistemines available ...deoderant works - long as it contains antihistemines. Just rub area with it and voila takes the itch away.

Sigh I must be getting old...egads as I can relate to this post too. I've spoken about the island that I visit, and stupid me got stung by a whole swarm of wasp this past summer. I didn't know the darn things also have their nest on the ground!!!I got several bites and I looked like I had alien hands.

As luck would have it 3 wks later got bit just one time back home, and few mins later I headed to the dog park with Merlin. The regulars at the dog park asked me what was wrong.
Whazzat??? Why do I look funny? One woman said my husband is highly allergic and looks like you, you'd better go to the hospital asap and she offered to drive me. I felt okay so declined ,but decided I'd better go home. In less than three blocks it took me to drive that distance I started feeling wheezy. I let Merlin in and drove myself to the hospital. I know stupid for not listening!!!

At the hospital they took one look at me and even tho the emergency room was full they hustled me in the back asap. Where I looked very dignified getting a shot in the butt, oxygen, and a perscription for an epi pen. I hope everyone reading this takes note and takes it far more seriously than I did if they have been bitten and have a reaction.

You've recieved good advice and unlike snake bites where the body learns to tolerate , you actually have less time and become more allergic to bee or wasp stings each time you get stung. Previous to that summer, I had been stung once and that was years ago and had no reaction. When the wasp swarmed me I recieved 7 bites and yet 3 wks later it was this one bite that caused such a severe reaction. Each time one is bitten they have less time for the reaction to set in. It occured within 15 mins of my being bit.

You go ahead and complain as they hurt like heck!!! I'm here for yah!
 Offers to fluff up pillow and bring slippers. Makes chicken noodle soup and offers support.

Hope you feel better and please check out the possibility of the need of an epi pen.

:D Marianne
LOL... thank you Marianne, but this post is from quite some time ago, I think Ron is trolling the forum today.... LOL *throws water balloon at Ron*
 Oops...shoulda read the date...ah...well glad you're feeling better now since Aug!!
