Finally! My tapestry arrived

After unpacking all the boxes, I discovered that my tapestry was missing. This is one of the pieces I got from my dad and so it is has high sentimental value to me. I contacted the moving company and they said they would try and locate it but gave me the impression that chances were low. :(

After the moving company put a trace on it, I got a call from the driver. He left me a voicemail assuring me that it was ok, they had found it and that it was at Juan's house. :?: Juan was one of the guys on the crew that delivered stuff to my house. The driver explained that he and Juan had discovered it when they were cleaning out the truck after unloading my stuff. This means that they knew about it before I even called but had not said anything.

The driver said that Juan would deliver it to me but he did not leave a number for me to call him back. Eventually, I got the driver's number through the main office and called him. He then put me in touch with Juan. This was about 2 weeks. Since then, Juan has called several times to explain why he could not deliver it -- it would not fit in his jeep; he needed to arrange with his friend who had a pick up truck, had to wait til his day off, oh what do you know, it is raining.

Fed up, I called the main office of the company again and explained that I had paid for professional delivery and that my tapestry should not be delivered in the back of a pickup truck. They apologized profusely and said that they had no idea that was what was going on. The driver had promised to have it delivered and they thought it was already done. So they arranged to have a partner company pick it up from Juan's house and deliver it to me today.

It arrived smelling like smoke but otherwise undamaged. I think a good dose of febreze will eliminate the smokey odor.

Here is the wall in my kitchen before -- big, blank and boring:

And here it is After -- wild and colorful!

It looks like it is not level, but that is just the way the fabric is pulled over the frame.

Here is a closeup if you are curious. It is an unusual tapestry. Its appeal might be an acquired taste. Fits right in with the wild beasties in the garden.

Now, I am just waiting for one final ceiling light fixture to be delivered. I was told it was shipped weeks ago but it turns out, it is still at the main office waiting for a truck to head this way. . .

I LOVE your tapestry...it is just beautiful! I cant believe that Juan was allowed to get away with that...it sounds a bit fishy....from the very beginning.....

Im glad you got it back though and it fits that wall perfectly!
I am surprised they didn't claim they had never found it. You are so LUCKY that you got it back! I am glad you did.
I can't really figure out what they thought they were doing. I believe that the carton was not marked because I went through the paperwork and I did not see it itemized. That really made me fearful that it would never be found, that it would be lost in a warehouse somewhere.

I believe that they found it cleaning out the truck but I don't understand why they didn't call me or why it would end up in Juan's house. Maybe they hoped that I would not notice it being missing?

Anyway, it feels wonderful to have it back. I only got a handful of oddball things from my dad and every one of them is precious to me. I have no idea where I would have been able to find a replacement. I searched on ebay and did not see anything like it.
Glad you got it back! It looks great on your wall. :D
Its beautiful Val! :clappurple:

I guess Juan had good taste!
Oh Val you are so lucky to be able to get the tapestry back. Could see that being pinched by someone, it is absolutely stunning, how old is it?

So glad it worked out all right and it is where it should be now, really sets off the area, warm and cosy :D
Those are gorgeous, Val. I'm so glad they came back to you. Apparently, Juan and his family were enjoying your tapestries
I bet you had no idea what they meant when they said you were paying a Juan Way Delivery charge.

But I am very happy that you got your tapestry back, Juan way or another.

I love the tapestry, it makes me want to play Jungle Twister -- Left hand Giraffe, Right foot Panther. :sidestep:

Just one tapestry! I am so happy to have it back. It really made me sad to think it could have been lost or stolen.

I have no idea how old it is or whether it is worth anything. It is one of those mysteries. I never asked my Dad where he got it. Just took it for granted that his life was filled with lovely, interesting stuff. He always called it "the Gaba" which is Kashmiri. The ones I've seen on ebay aren't as complex, but they don't cost very much either.
That is beautiful, and looks perfect on your wall. Glad you got it back!
I love it. It reminds me of a book or picture I saw from my childhood.

I am always giving people the benefit of the doubt in situations...I'm glad you got it back.
I am SO glad you got it back, Val. It's just gorgeous and looks wonderful on your wall!!

I do believe they had intended to steal it from day one, if it wasn't marked or on your list. You are very lucky they decided to 'fess up. I would LOVE to be a fly on the wall when the main office called the driver, and when the driver spoke to Juan!!

Anyway, congratulations on the safe return of your keepsake! :go:
Oh goodness - I'm so glad it's back in your possession. Losing anything during a move is annoying, but something that precious with such sentimental value would've been unspeakable.

It looks lovely in your kitchen, too.
What a lovely tapestry... and shame - shame on Juan! It looks like it was made for that kitchen wall!!! Enjoy the memories it brings :)
