They're Heeeeeere........(Ticks, that is)

After picking two ticks off of Oscar in the past three days, I thought I would put out a general warning for those of us in the Northern Illinois area. Oscar must have picked them up on our morning walks, which are just around my suburban neighborhood. No high grass, just manicured lawns, though we do back up to a golf course. They were both American Dog Ticks. UGH!!!!

Happy Tick Hunting. 8O

UGH! I am so sorry for you guys, who have to deal with this!

For those of you who think living with the cold weather in Alaska is crazy...NO ticks...NO fleas...NO heartworms

You should warn the golfers!
last year I bought this stuff to repel mosquitoes around my house....it works wonders...it says it also repels ticks, so if you have a problem around your house with ticks....

its garlic....ok so your lawn smells like a huge salad for 2 hours after application  But it repelled the mosquitoes for about 3 weeks before we had to do another application. I think we are going to use it this weekend if it doesn't rain. The mosquitoes are bad here already.

I'm interested in this since...unfortunately...mosquitoes are something we definitely DO have. However, I'm concerned about the dogs ingesting garlic juice from the grass....isn't garlic toxic for dogs? :?

Okay, so this is probably a dumb question but here goes...
How can you have mosquitoes but not heartworms?
That just doesn't seem fair!
Who can I complain to about this?
Different population of mosquitoes....possibly a different species...? I'm not totally sure....but I sure am GLAD!!! 8O

No snakes or (indigenous) poisonous spiders, either! :D
Alaska is sounding pretty
darn fabulous to me :D

I looked it up...this is what I found.... http://www.entirelypets.com/toxicfoods.html

"Onions and garlic contain the toxic ingredient thiosulphate. Onions are more of a danger.......

While garlic also contains the toxic ingredient thiosulphate, it seems that garlic is less toxic and large amounts would need to be eaten to cause illness."

I don't let the dogs on the grass for a day or 2 after we spray, for us that is easy to do since we have a dog run. But my dogs are not usually grass eaters.
We used it last year and no ill effects on the dogs :)
