He advised us to take Daisy home and spoil her rotten (As if I needed to be told that!) and while she has a good quality of life and is eating and feeling fine then just leave things well alone and let her enjoy what time she has. He couldn't give any indication of how long she may have but did tell us the story of a spaniel he has as a patient whose lungs showed 'full' of cancer almost a year ago and is still running around as if there was nothing wrong! At least Daisy's lungs were clear at x-ray last week. We have booked a long weekend at a seaside hotel in Cornwall for next month - Daisy loves the beach and it will give us lots of time for extra cuddles and treats. Fresh fish - Daisy's favourite! Lets get this UK Sheepie day organised soon as I'd love Daisy to be there. |

Oh dear. Not the best news, but you're seizing the moment the right way. Enjoy your fish Daisy and love on your family as much as you can! |
Never give up hope, sheepies have the power to amaze! Enjoy your trip and make many more happy memories with your Daisy girl. And remember, we are always here for you, good times or bad. Lots of shoulders to lean on when you need them.

Oh no
Poor Daisy! Hopefully she'll just ignore the cancer and will be around for a while. I had a friend whose Lab had cancer and they were told the same thing, and that the Lab only had a month or two. Well, she lived another 8 months, completely normal until the very end, when all of a sudden she's wasn't fine. Hugs to you. |
Oh my, what sad, horrible news!
Daisy's been such a trooper through everything, I'm sure she'll continue to fight! Enjoy your time away with her, make lots more memories and take lots more pictures. Gentle belly rubs to that brave girl from me and Drez, please! |
I am so sorry for the disappointing news. You sound like you are handling it really well. My heart goes out to you. Stay strong and enjoy all the antics of your sweet Daisy. The vacation sounds wonderful. Keep a camera handy. |
I am so sorry that you received this news. Hugs for you all from across the pond.

I am very sorry to hear the news about Daisy.
Maybe since she is older the cancer will not spread as quickly. I know that is how it is with Senior humans. I hope she continues to have a good life for as long as possible. Big hugs to you and Daisy. Enjoy the beach! |
I'm sorry to hear about Daisy, but sounds like you are having a positive attitude. Spoil yourselves rotten and I will also say "don't give up hope." There are lots of miracles and Daisy will be one! Enjoy your time at the beach and give Daisy a hug for me. |
Such sad news. I'm very sorry to hear it. You are quite right to make the most of your time together. I like the idea of booking a weekend away at her favorite place. Love her. |
I am so sorry to hear the biopsy results.
I worked as an oncology nurse for many years and can only tell you that I learned to appreciate each day (which you are doing) and that the will to live can't be overestimated. Hugs and kisses to all of you. Positive thoughts too. |
I'm so sorry. It's never easy to get this diagnosis and prognosis. Just keep in mind that Daisy is still enjoying life and try not to waste too much time with worry.
You're vet advised you well. Spoil her rotten and love her as long as you can. Give Daisy a hug for us and enjoy your time at the beach! |
I'm sorry to hear too, give your lovely daisy a huge cuddle from us and spoil her rotten and cherise her everyday. |
I am so sorry to hear the biospy results were not good. Please give Daisy a big hug from us. |
I'm sad to hear you got bad news. Enjoy your vacation and playing with Daisy. |
I hope you'll have lots more happy times and hugs with her. It may not be the best news that you wanted to hear but just let Daisy tell you what she needs-- don't give up hope! |
I think that the beach is one of the best places to spoil a doggy. I am sure that it will make her feel like puppy again. My dogs are always thrilled by it. Good luck and all of you have fun and enjoy the time and joys. |
I am so sorry to hear this. We lost our first sheepie to this awful cancer. My thoughts are with you. |
Thank you everyone for your kind words. I have passed on all the hugs, belly rubs (gently!) and kisses for Daisy who appreciated each and every one! We are not giving up hope at all. Daisy and I have had a good chat about the situation and we are going to prove the vet wrong! She has recovered well from surgery last week and back to enjoying her walks in the field near our home, chasing ducks and being her usual, lovable self.
Thanks again, |
Karen, we lost Vaughn to cancer. He was a Siberian Husky with a ton of hair so we did not notice the tumor till it was huge. He was groomed about two weeks before and I wonder how good a job they did that they did not find this huge tumor. Anyway a year later it was growing back and we had it removed again. The Vet suggested removing his leg to get all the cancer but as Vaughn was 11yrs old I could not see doing this to him. He was not the kind of dog that would be happy on three legs. After about 6or7 mnts it was back again and this time we decided to let nature take its course. He was spoiled from puppyhood so we really did not have to do anything different and when the time came he let us know he was no longer happy. The moral is we had him for months after and knew in out hearts that we did what needed to be done. Best wishes to you and Daisy and I know its hard but don't dwell on her death but cherish each day she's with you...Pam |
Well just seeing your news after I just complained about my situation with B just slapped me in the face! I am so sorry, I would really be feeling sorry if it were me. Reading your letters inspires me. I hope I can have your spirit when a situation like yours hits me.
I am praying for you and your family. |
My Macy (13 year old chocolate lab) has cancer too. She had a big tumor the size of a man's fist removed from her right groin almost 2 yrs ago. She had a rocky recovery, but has been good for last summer and over the winter.
Now she is losing weight, in spite of a voracious appetite. She normally was 55 lbs, today at the vet is 44.5. She eats 3-4 cups of quality food, and treats and is still losing weight. It has obviously spread internally now. She is happy and does not appear to be in any pain. Other than being stone deaf now, she is her usual self, just too thin. We plan to keep her as healthy as we can, and enjoy her every day. |
I am so sorry you received this news. I think that you and Daisy have the right idea! Keep up the bright spirit and enjoy your time together.
