Importing a Pup from Another Country

I have a question about buying a pup from another country. The more I see of dogs in the Scandinavian countries, the more impressed with them I become! Does anyone know what the problems/barriers to international puppy buying are? (NO...I am NOT contemplating a pup at this time...just thinking about the future! ) Living in Alaska, Sheepie puppies almost inevitably have to come from far away, regardless.

The Scandinavian countries do a lot of importing from here in the states so you might as well just skip all of the pain and just get your pup here. If you are serious about those bloodlines, let me know and I'll point you in the right direction.
Thanks for moving this for me ButtersScotch! :)
I myself have imported two dogs from Brazil to Canada, and both times there were no problems. The dog must go through customs and the paperwork is inspected to insure all vaccinations have been done. There are a few fees involved. You must pay tax on the dog, and an inspection fee. I also had to pay Air Canada a $45 handling fee.
