Debcram's new car, Samantha, got me wondering...how many of you guys name your vehicles? We always do, and have a variety of naming traditions: The Vans are always named for TV or movie spaceships...there has been Enterprise, Moira, and The LEX. Our 2 Subarues are "BooBoo" (as in "Subooboo" ) and "Emma Frost" (her license plate is Ema***, and the rest comes from a comic book character) Or Trucks have been "Dee-Dee" and "Rosy"....I'm not telling why, because its highly rude R.V.s have been "The Happy Handbasket" (as in "going to hell in a...") and our current travel trailer, as yet un-named...suggestions??? |

I have a diesel volkswagen jetta....the first day I drove it to work and pulled into my parking space, my boss said it sounded like chitty chitty bang bang....the name stuck.... |
My very first car was a Volkswagon Bug named Blinky. There was a button on the dash that had a "B" on it and it lit up when you pushed it. For the longest time I didn't know what the button was for and when people would ask I would say it's just the Blinky button. I was later told it had to do with the battery....if it lit up you knew your battery worked. I still think the blinky button sounds better!
We currently have an Explorer...named Dora. Sadly enough we got the Explorer PRIOR to having our daughter! |
I have had quite a few named vehicles.
My Dad used to name his company trucks, so I named our families cars. I named my Mom's cars when I was little.... My first car was a Silver Peugeot nicknamed the Silver Bullet (as in Coor Light)...aka...The Silver Snail or Silver Slug. (Hmm, thinking about it that would probably be a better name for the CR-V as it is as slow as the Peugeot was, and silver I have had Black Beauty, a beautiful Black Mustang. After that was my Black Jeep Cherokee that I used to call my "Jeep Beep". My White Camry was Casper the friendly Camry. lol My Honda CR-V has been named Harry the Honda or as my husband calls it, the roller skate. |
We used to always name our cars.......but the only ones I can remember right now are Victor Volvo......oh, and Neville Nissan, Charlie the Cougar. Neville is still with us, but the Honda has yet to be named. Right now it's The Honda. |
My first new car was a chevrolet impala wagon. Mom's choice to pull our camper. I named her Esmerelda. Margot added Sherman as in drove like a sherman tank. So Esmerelda Sherman stuck. My honda civic became Cupcake after an ice storm left 3/4 of an inch of ice(ing) on her one night at work. None of my other vehicles have inspired names. |

Our beatup suburban was "the burb".
My escort hatchback is "the little purple car" (how original ) It's claim to fame is the AMAZING amount of stuff it actually holds. Todd's black 4x4 Dodge pickup is "the big, bad Dodge". Even granddaughter Breanna calls it that - so cute coming out of a 4 yr old's mouth! |

I call our beat up Suburban: The Burban or the Family Truckster. Before Billy got the Suburban he had a K5 Blazer, which was pretty much the same vehicle with two door instead of four. That was also the Family Truckster. Billy also had a White plumbing van named "8 ball". It was his old bosses Van that he had purchased from him and it had a small eight ball painted on each of the front fenders as the Van's number. I said we should have renamed the Van... Cocaine! |
My VW Golf is called Herman and my husband used to have a Nissan called Norman. He has just bought a Mitsubishi .....yet to be named! |
My first car was the family's old 84 Ford Van. It was blue and white, so it was called the Blue Whale, or the Love Van of Joy.
We drove my brother in law's Subaru across country for him when he graduated from college and we named it The Booroo... My current car is silver, so it is called the Silver Bullet, or the Grey Goose. My husband drives a Chevy Tahoe and it is humungous and I feel like I am a little girl in a big bubble, so I call it The Bubble. |
Our motorhome's full name is "The Happie Camper." We call her "Happie" for short.
Our license plate: <img src="http://www.happiecamper.com/assets/images/HappieCamperPlate2.jpg" /> The first year we had that plate, every time I saw it I thought it said "HIPPIE" |
My first car was a Green Pinto...I know! Laugh ! I referred to it as my Mean Green Machine.
It's hilarious and so ironic you posted this Raven as just yesterday as I was driving back from picking up Dusty, my former foster cat and was thinking I have a Animal Rescue/Transport Van! On my way I stopped at someone's house whom was giving me a free dog/cat bed. Next I stopped at a Garage Sale which had a cat kennel for 2 dollars. That went into the van. I also had numerous blue gym mats in the back of the van (given to me by the school principal for the dogs) More than I needed, so I keep them on the floor of the van in case I come across a stray dog/cat. Next comes a series of leashes..also if I happen to see a stray and need one. Then my sister loaded bags of cat food which had been donated to her and she shared with me. Along with a huge box of nyla bones! While on in the country I decided to stop and get two bales of hay from a farmer for the bunnies and Guinea pigs. Lastly was picking up Dusty. At the stop light I turned my back to check out Dusty and viewed all the pet items and had to chuckle. Yup that's my van...Animal Rescue!! Better than the other names I usually refer to it. I love this! Samantha is the first car I've ever had that's had a name. However, my ex MIL (whom I still adore) had a big, huge old oldsmobile in the 80's named Duchess. My husband's name is Tony, my son's name is Tony, and my daughter's G6 is named Tony. I've made her promise she will NOT marry anyone named Tony (OY! I'm so confused!) Tony (husband) referes to Samantha as , The New Hotness. He has an '08 Volvo C70 on order, that he referes to as The New Coolness! (Yes...mental health issues run in our family!) |
All of my vehicles have been known as my purse. My sister had a 78 volarie (How ever it is spelled) that was call Beatice. It did not look like much, by that car would not die. My father sold it when the floor fell out, and we still see it around town. My parent's white Town and Contry is known as the Beluga, because it's white blob like shape. It should be known as slam, as many times as it has been in accidents. |
The 1999 BMW 323 was named "Mother". Everytime I got into the car, it was telling me what to do.
My 02 Red Jeep Liberty was Mary Margret. She looked like that red haired girl in junior high that was just a bit goofy with a big toothy smile, braces, and scabby knees. The 03 Mini Cooper is Gary. get it, Gary Cooper... |
I have a "soft" friend who has a pink car which he calls Raspberry.
I don't really name my cars but I do have an Outlander and you can never just say that name like a normal person. You have to say it at a thousand decibals and in a high pitched voice just like Malikai from Children of the Corn. P.S. When we went to pick the car up at the dealership, none of them got that at all! So sad! |
The closest I've ever gotten to naming a car is "start, damn you ". |
We haven't named all our vehicles. Only if there is seems to be something to set it apart from the others.
I have a big Dodge Ram and a little Ford Ranger. I call the Ford my baby truck. My mom called her Lincoln, Decky, short for decadent. My son bought an Escort for $200 to drive during the winter and calls it The Beast. It came with Tazmanian Devil seat covers and decal on the back. My forster daughter had a car that was the ugliest shade of green bean. It became known as The Beaner. |
Hey, we have the "big bad Dodge" and also a little white 2 wheel drive Ford Ranger! Todd drives the Ranger when he wants to get better gas mileage than the big truck! |
When i was younger my family had this GEO METRO that us kids drove around. We would call it the DINK MOBIL. Because it was like riding around in a tin can.
My sisters husband had a Ford Tempo before they were married which he called The TEMPO OF DOOM from Indiana Jones. |

Ha ha, same thing here. Ronnie drives the baby truck because of the gas mileage. |
I've named my 560SL "The Princess" since only I am allowed to drive her - husband doesn't get to drive it and even has to take his work shoes off to ride in her.
He, however, has Fwed the fur-folk limo (GMC 1-ton Van) which is used for all errands, sheepie related travel and anything else requiring a large gas-eating vehicle. |

LMAO |
Fwed? lol |
He named the van "Fwed" after his swim buddy of 40 years ago.
Apparently that was the fellow's nickname after he had more than a few beers, which, as I understand from the old tales told at the yearly convention, was an all too frequent happening. |
