Jack came to us emaciated, flea-infested, covered with sores and had hookworms. Thankfully, he tested heartworm negative. A special "thank you" to Aimee, the angel who freed Jack and a special oes.org member who donated the cost of his neuter. You know who you are! Such a sweet, sweet boy! I can't imagine anyone letting any animal get into this condition. Jack after finishing his shavedown and bath.... Warming up in the sunroom. A very handsome boy he is! Jack, the first night in our home. He weighed 57# and should be around 80# for his large frame. |

Oh, his nose is so cute! Poor boy, just look at those ribs and hip bones! |
Oh, he is so thin. I hope the meat starts sticking to his bones. I'm so happy he is safe now. I will never understand how someone could treat a pup like that |
Hooray for Jack!! It sounds like he had a tough life. I bet he's thrilled to be with you and getting the love and attention (not to mention food) he deserves. He looks like a sweetie. Keep us posted!! |
My heart breaks when I see a picture like that. I know he is in good hands now, but how a human could do that to a dog I will never understand.
Please give him an extra butt rub for me. |
Oh poor Jack!
Thank goodness you were able to get him. |
Oh Nita... the first time I saw that bottom picture I had to
look again because I wasn't sure he was even alive. He looks like he came out of a concentration camp Bless Aimee for doing what was needed to get this sheepie-boy out of a bad situation and into rescue. And a great big thanks to you too Nita for helping him find a new home where he can be happy and loved. Sniff, sniff... cases like this make me cry but he's one very lucky sheepie to even be alive. Give that big fella a smooch for me. Ummm.. better wait 'til the worms are gone first |
Oh poor poor Jack. Bless Aimee for saving this sweet boy! |
OMG!
How can anyone do something so inhumane. Find the owner and starve him/her too. So glag he will be alright now. Bless you. |
Oh this is sooo wonderful!
OK, who is the neuter angel?!??!?? Is Aimee one of our Aimees? I love the pic gnawing on the bone. It will be great to see Jack as he puts on some more muscle and fur. Please don't "fatten him up" too quickly. As long as he's gaining weight he's doing purrrrrrfect. No fat! |
Ron wrote: Oh this is sooo wonderful! OK, who is the neuter angel?!??!?? I'm not so sure this member wants to be known as the "neuter angel", so I won't say.... Ron wrote: Is Aimee one of our Aimees? No, I don't believe this Aimee is a member here as she's a terrier person. Just someone with a heart of gold and persuasive enough to convince her relative to do the right thing. Please don't "fatten him up" too quickly. As long as he's gaining weight he's doing purrrrrrfect. No fat! Nope, the weight is going on slowly. This guy is a real chow-hound and has to be limited on rations. Several small meals works best. I'm really concerned about bloat. He's getting good quality food (Eagle Pack) so he should come around quickly. It's hard to believe that Jack is such a sweetheart after all he's been through. I just can't imagine the conditions he was living under and the really sad thing is, how many others are there that nobody ever knows about??? |
Thank you Nita, for rescuing this sweetie pie. He is just beautiful and I'm sure he will flourish under your care.

How can anyone mistreat any animal like this especially a pet and member of the family. |
Awww nita what a sweetie he is, can't believe how skin and bones he is, just awful and what a wonderful thing to hear he is still such a sweetheart after all that has happened to him.
Looking forward to seeing photos of him blooming under your care, what a lucky boy he is and also positive thoughts for him in finding that special loving forever home too. Hugs Nita and well done, wishing you all a wonderful happy ending. |
Poor guy . If anyone can make him better it's you Nita |
Ohhh....my.....
Thank God you have him Nita. I am so glad he's safe and getting the nutrition and care he needs. |
He looks huge even as just skin and bones...unless it is just the angle of the photos....he'll be a big guy when he gets up to his healthy weight. I am so glad he made it to you and will now live a happy life |
Oh, look at that sweet, sweet face! What a sad life this boy has had to endure until now. Nita, thank you so much for saving this precious baby!
All 3 of our dogs have been rescues. I have found that rescues are very sweet tempered, probably because they know what they had before and what they have now. Bless his soul! |
oh what a sweet looking boy.. looks like he is on the right track.. once again another one saved.. thanks to you |
Oh - he's going to be beautiful when he fills in. He looks like he has a sweet personality! |
Honestly, I'm the lucky one gaining experience working with various sheepie "personalities" and having the chance to see these dogs flourish on good food, love and attention.
There is such a great network of people on this forum who support and promote rescue, whether it be OES or all-breed. People like Jaci and Jim who work magic behind the scenes. Heather, Anna, Katie and Shellie who have done home visits for us. Jill who has volunteered to do any home visit within a few hours of her home. Nancy, Belinda, Kathy, Grace, Annie, Marie, Zach & Diane, Cindy, Madeline, Ingrid, Tammy, Wyn, Kim, Ron... who have helped promote rescue and show us "newbies" the ropes. (I know I'm leaving someone out here... sorry, you know who you are) Everyone on this board seems to support the efforts of OES Rescue and that's a wonderful thing. Many people didn't know that breed-specific rescues exist but through this forum many have gained awareness. That's fantastic. Then there are the shelter volunteers and breed rescue volunteers that call us when they see an OES needing a home. Angels, all. As I'm typing this, Jack walks over and looks at me with his big brown eyes and some tv show is playing Louis Armstrong's "It's A Wonderful World" in the background. That just about says it all. |
so did Jack find a forever home in Chicago? |

I'm hoping the family that Anna visited in Chicago can come meet Jack in about a week. I think they're pawfect for him!!! Keep your fingers crossed for Jack! |
See what a difference a week makes.....
The family originally interested in Jack may have to pass on him due to personal reasons. So, we're still looking for a home for Jack. http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/IN352.html |
OMG Nita, he looks so much better already. |
Ooooh... such a sweet boy!
I'll take him! hehehe Darn... just kidding. Thanks for the update Nita... he's lookin' mighty good and happy too! |
WOW !!!what a difference |
That is such an improvement in him. What a sweetheart. He will find the purfect home. |
Everyone keep your fingers and paws crossed...I don't want to jinx this but:
Jack is going home on Sunday!!! The most wonderful OES-experienced home in St. Louis is adopting our boy Jack. A special thanks to Judi (SheepieMommy) for doing the home visit. Both Judi and I have been touting oes.org to the new family. We're hoping they will join and also make an appearance at Sheepiepalooza. Here's Jack looking especially distinguished: And here's one of Sassy, Nelson and Jack mooching peanut butter from hubby (the real reason that Jack put on weight!) |
Yay!!!!! |
What a happy ending. Hugs to Jack's new family |
Yay for Jack!
Best wishes to you and your new family |
I'm so happy for Jack!!! Great job Nita! |
Thrilled for this sheepie fella
Gosh...Jack is looking so good Hmmm...must be the magic of love & peanut butter God Bless You Nita! Jack captured my heart Diane |
Congratulations Nita!!!
And congratulations to Jack and his new family too!!!!! |
Nice shave, bath, medicine to remove the "bugs", warm fuzzy house, sheepdog friends........and peanutbutter! No wonder he is so happy. Hopefully the new home will continue this special treatment!
My own "rescue" Jack sends his regards and reminds "new" Jack to stand by the kitchen counter, you never know what will fall........today it was carrots, celery, garlic and finally a cube of beef! OK, Mom pushed them off the counter...... |
That is great news. he looks sooo much better already. I hope they make it to Sheepiepalooza. |
