It could be a marking, really cool trick, or behavior that gives your OES his/her personality! I was wondering and thought it would be cool to hear the different things OES really do from members. Chelsea does a growl with what sounds like sheepie talk when you ask her to "speak" (and of course with treat in hand).... It almost sounds like she has peanut butter in her mouth saying rroowww roowww. Hard to explain, and pretty cute!! Took me a while to teach her that....but well worth it! |

Mojo thinks he is a lap dog and loves a belly rub. He is really too big now for sitting in your lap, expecially if you are sitting a a chair. And I think he has learned that just showing his belly doesn't get it rubbed.
He will come sit down in front of you and throw himself backwards, half into your lap, belly up. He looks up at you, front paws in the air and all wiggly. Kind of hard to resist. |
Ahh - I read this post this morning and have been thinking all day. The problem is, I could write PAGES and PAGES!!! I think my favorite thing about Bingley is his happy personality. He is sooo lovable and always seems to have a happy, expressive face!! Oh - and he caught a frisbee mid-jump tonight!! |
The following is a lesson in what not to do with a baby sheepie -
I carried London around on my hip like a baby. Now at a yr old she will still jump up on me in an effort to pick her up and carry her. And if one of the big boys has a toy she wants she will bark and whine at them until they get sick of it and get up and walk away and let her have the toy. She is totally rotten but she is so cute she gets away with it. Lucky adores being groomed. If you have a brush in your hand he wants some strokes with it. He will sit for hours while you groom him. Sam - has the most goofy look and will back up to you and then plop his butt down in your lap and just sit there. The three are quite a mix but I love them all. |
I've been thinking about this all day too There's just so much to choose from...I think my favorite sheepie trait is wanting to be where I am, an participate in whatever I do, no matter how boring They are just so happy to be with the ones they love.
Other, more specific quirks: Abby's habit of throwing her head back as far as it will go, with her mouth wide open when she's really happy Spencer (gone to the Bridge 8 months ago) had an endearing habit of sitting beside me and laying his head over, sideways onto my sholder. He also liked to sneak into bed (under the covers!) on my side, in the middle of the night. Eggbert LOVES his toys, and feels that everyone else should enjoy them too. He will pile them on any seated person, or even Abby, when she's asleep! He's even been known to wait for a moment during play, when her mouth happens to be open, and stuff one in! |
Brie loves her stuffies and cares and carrys them around and shows them off to every visitor. She does not bark she Oooorooos and speaks. I love her gentle soft dopey nature. She is the blonde of the family.
Kelsey is the brains, very independant, loves terminating stuffies, even at 12 years old. Makes me laugh when she does, the innocent expression, "Geez was not Me" and one day she even sat on one to hide the destruction, funny the white stuffie stuffing spread around the room gave me an indication another one bites the dust and off to stuffie heaven, she is a real character, naughty and nice. The other one for all of them is the no privacy at all in this house, bathrooms and visitors have to expect two nosey girls perving on them, that's what I love about them, they have to know everything that is going on and be with you 24/7. When I do go out without them and come home then there is the sniff test, starting with one on each foot snuffing to see "Where ya been without us?" |
Every day when we come home from work, Clyde jumps into my arms three times. he comes running to me, I hold my arms out and he jumps up to kiss me. Then, he runs to James for a butt rub and comes back to jump up and kiss me again. One more butt rub and then back to me again. Then he goes outside. It happens every day exactly the same. It's really cute and something I've really grown to look forward to even if it does mean catching a 105 pound dog as he jumps on me! |
My absolute favorite trait is my morning "wake up call". Every morning Miley hops up on bed and wiggles her way between my husband and I until he gets up to take her out. Then (my favorite part) she runs back in and lays in his spot giving me my wake up kisses waiting until I am ready to go out walking with her. As I am not a morning person - she helps me wake up and get of bed with out the snooze alarm - some days she resorts to laying on top of me. |
This is a toss up. When I speak to Fred he tilts his head sideways, lifts one ear up as if hanging on my every word and gazes at me very intently. It is quite funny and it seems as though he is waiting with bated breath for me to say one of his favorite phrases, "Wanna go out?", "Want Treat?", "Where's Grinch?"
Monster Mom reminded me how much I love my morning wake up too. First it starts out gentle, with some slimy facial licks, then it progresses to the front two legs up on the bed, if I don't acquiesce I get a paw or two and when all else fails I end up with a 70 pound hyper ball of fur laying on top of me. My husband and I always laugh. We don't allow him on the bed and Fred knows he is not allowed. His bed is next to our bed. One time our daughter was sleeping in with us and Fred apparently felt left out, so he very sneakily war crawled his way onto the bed.(weasled his way on) He sat their with his head down as if we were not going to notice him. "Right a 50+ pound dog at the time and we aren't going to notice him" |
hahaha! Great stories.....There's a whole lotta bed jumpin' and lovin going on
It's really neat to hear the different ways they catch our hearts... |

That sound is called "pot casse" and is a distinctive trait of the Sheepdog. |

I thought pot casse described the intensity of the bark! Learn something new everyday . . . |
oh soooo many to mention, so I'll be brief. When I come home I have to very quickly get down on my knees and Ollie jumps up, front paws over my shoulders and the kissing starts, I have to turn sideways for air, which makes him works lol, then when he's had enough licking, he likes to walk through my legs, but I have to tickle from his back feet to his bum, then he wiggles through and does it again. Its appropriate that we have a sign in the kitchen that says "Welcome Home Dance Done Here" |
Panda does so many funny things. It hard to pick...
she has a loving personality...she brings be her basket of toys, one by one, when i am getting ready for work..then lays down and licks my feet since i am not enticed by all of her toys... she does what i call the wookie talk...and will talk to me when im not paying enough attention to her... and most importantly, when i kiss her good night, she leans into me and sighs...a sign of true love, affection and trust. |
