Found a lump on the back of my sheepie! Advice please!

Yesterday my son was petting Lucy and said, "Mom there is a lump on her back." I felt it and it is certainly there. Today it felt smaller. She is only 5 months old. My question is can she have tumors and such at such a young age. She is very active and plays really hard. She has wrestle dates with buddies in the yard everyday and they get pretty rough. Could it be a bump from nipping and wrestling with her buds? She also was microchipped and it seems to be in about the same spot. Could it be an allergic reaction to the chip? Going to contact the vet in the am. She is already so much apart of the family. Anyone had any similar lump experience? It is not red or has broken skin.
Praying,
Salley

I don't really know anything about lumps but I am thinking positive thoughts for your sweetie. Hope the Vet gives you good news.
The best place to go for advice is to your Vet, if necessary they can biosy the lump. Many lumps are simple benign lipomas but they can also be cancerous. A reaction to the micro chip sounds like a possiblity, but the Vet is the BESY one to decide.

Good luck!!
It could just be a cyst but Ginny is right, let your vet decide. Good luck!
My parents Shih Tzu has bumps that come and go all the time-- but she's 12. I think that happens most often in older dogs, and the vet said not to worry about them, as they come and go on their own.

However, I would definitely ask the vet, especially since your baby is young.
Was she recently vaccinated for anything? Sometimes they can get a bump at the injection point that takes some time to go away.

I was going to write the same thing. I doubt there's anything to worry about at that age, but if there has been no injection it always pays to have the vet check it out.
Good luck and keep us posted.
When I got home and checked Lucy the lump is much smaller. It was the size of a ping pong ball now it is about the size of a marble. She did recently get shots, the Saturday before Easter, but not too recent. Vet said watch it and bring her in tomorrow pm so he can examine it. It is on her back, but feels like ribs underneath. I feel the love. Thanks for the sheepie sloppy kisses! I will update tomorrow. Sheepies play so hard, I love to watch her rip and romp! This sheepie love takes you by storm!

Hi Salley,

I had posted something last night but think I messed up somehow as I don't see the post. Anyhow glad you are getting it checked at the vet's and it probably is due to the innoculation or even the microchip. Keep us updated and hugs to you both.

Glad it went down. There are a lot of posts about lumps, bumps, tumors and growths.
Vet said it could have been the chip or shots. Whew! So glad. Since behavior hasn't changed, activity level, eating, etc. he said she shouldn't be in danger especially since it is gone. This is my first sheepie and I am completely devoted. Thanks for all the great support. I love this forum!
