Can anyone recommend an IPOD? Mr. J emailed me and said he would like to have one while he's in Iraq for when he's working out. I've never held one, let alone turn one on or used it. Neither has he, so i have no clue how easy/difficult/expensive they are. |

All the iPods are basically the same except for size. The shuffle versions don't have a screen. Just go to apple.com and take a look and it'll all be pretty clear. If he just wants it for working out, one of the nanos should do just fine. |
Shuffles are great for working out because the new ones just clip onto you.
If you have some money to spend I would recommend the video ipod- They hold a lot more music and he can store pictures and videos on it as well. |
How hard is he on electronics? I have had the mini, the nano and the full iPod and the full iPod takes way more abuse. Also, for the money, you get more bang for your buck with the full iPod.
To add to your confusion, I would also keep in mind when you want to purchase. I gurantee you that the new iPods are coming out soon and they will look an awful like the iPhone. Almost the entire front will be the screen with the controls imposed on the screen. With the introduction of a new model the old 5th generation models are sre to drop in price. |
I was just asking my son about that.
I have no idea which to buy. Do I want MP3 or IPOD. Do I want just music or music and pictures. Now you can even get ones that record DVD's. I was looking at one with an 80g hard drive and is only a little bigger than a deck of card. What will they think of next. If I wait a month or two maybe I can get one that will brush the dog!! |
Okay, I'm pretty sure we won't use it for anything other than music. I have no idea what all IPODS even do, but we 100% don't need it as a phone, text messaging, or whatever other thing people do on the internet.
Do they play tv shows or something too? or just music? And do nanos do this too? I feel old. He's not even big on music. He just wants one b/c he said he's the only one w/o one at the gym. He is hard on things (the abuse thing). I mean... he's in the desert. |
As my partnr in crime ButtersStotch said earlier, I would point you in the direction of apple.com to get all the information on iPods.
The Shuffle is tiny, and will hold about 125 songs. The Nano will hold pictures and play music. Regualr iPod will play music, video, pictures. The shuffle is great for a runner or someone who works out (but it is smaller than a matchbook, so easy to lose). As I mentioned earlier, you don't need to use alll the functions, but bang for the buck, the regular iPod is what I would recommend. |
Love my 8m Nano. Pictures and more music than I can listen to. Small size too. |
While thinking about Nanos, shuffles and MP3s last night, the memory of getting my first AM transistor radio came to mind.
I probably was about 9 or 10. It was bright red with a little wrist strap. I would hang it on my bike. Thought it was the coolest thing ever. My how technology has changed. |
I love my Nano...I have all my photos on it and all my music< I got a scilicone sleeve with it and that protects it from scratches, great for running, dog walking and watching all the photos on shuffle |

I can't kill my 3rd generation 20 gig iPod. I've been trying to drop it and be rough on it so I have an excuse to get a new one and it will not die. I thought they might come out with a new model on April 1 so, since they didn't, I guess I'll keep this one alive until the new ones come out. |
Congrats on the new camera!
No advice on an iPod, I have no need for one. |
I wish mail here was faster. My ebay stuff takes more than 14 days regularly when I know it was sent off the day I purchased it. I just hate figuring out how to use new things! |
Ughh................
I was pushed to buy a better memory card when they called to verify my order. I normally NEVER buy anything extra and can be rude about telling them, but this time... I caved since I wanted to buy a memory card (larger) eventually anyway. ....just not all at once due to price. Is it true that if I use the one given to me (which he said is not highspeed), it would not be able to record in movie mode without bad lag? Then when I download the movie onto my desktop, it might not even be compatible? This is why I was convinced to say okay to a 59 dollar memory card. That's so expensive. I said no to the extra batteries. |
