So while driving down the road in France my husband and I saw what looked exactly like a sheepdog...only it was brown. But the texture and length of hair and the face shape and nose all looked exactly like a sheepdog. Any ideas as to what it could be? We took a picture through the car window and will post when we get home, even though it probably isn't very clear... |

Bouvier des Flanders? |
Bouvier Des Flanders look more like a giant schnauzer when clipped right...I have never seen a brown one...but it could have been a Briard....my inlaws have one and he looks just like a brown sheepie, his ears are not clipped like the show dogs. |
Perhaps a Beardie cross? http://www.akc.org/breeds/bearded_collie/
OR an enormous Polish Lowland Sheepdog? http://www.akc.org/breeds/polish_lowlan ... /index.cfm They can both be brown. This is fun! |
A Wheaton is brown...they can look shaggy like an OES.
Otherwise a x with an OES....looking forward to the pictures. |
I was thinking Briard, they are brow about the same size and shaggy. |
Briards are French. |
Mes Oui!!!
Sounds like it was a Briard. They come in a variety of colors and do resemble OES with their shaggy fur. http://www.briards.org.uk/portal/ http://www.briard.com/ Marianne and the boys |
It could have actually been an OES. My neighbors used to have a brown and white one, not crossed with anything |

Its been awhile since I've been in the books, but doesn't it say in the OES description that "brown" is a fault? Meaning, that somehow brown does get in the line? Maybe someone with an open book can refresh memories...... |
Pam, brown is a fault. This poor girl had lots of temperament problems and if I recall correctly had to be euthanised |
Okay, well, here is the picture I promised. All you can really see is a blob of brown fur that takes up the entire back of the trunk. I think it was a Briard that didn't have its ears done.

It looks like a Briard, they don't crop the ears there. |
