What's Three More? Make that Six.

As I look at my diminishing back account and my past monthly vet bill which exceeded my monthly morgage payment, even I have to sometimes give my head a shake. Still can't complain as I'm living the life I always dreamed about and every animal that comes into my home always has a forever home and the best care given.

Yeah I know...call me crazy but I am going to be a mom of three more furballs. That will bring up my numbers of furballs to 12.

Arthur, the diminutive 2 pound senior bunny will be arriving Friday along with his pal William the Guinea Pig. Both lived in an outdoor pen up north..poor little bun! Nine years old and he's never known the freedom of running around on grass or the opportunity to dig in a mound of dirt. He was found frozen stuck to his outdoor pen and rescued by a kind hearted soul whom also belongs to the Small Animal Rescue group I belong to. He's being picked up tomorrow along with William his buddy and through Bunny Express will be transferred to someone's home near my place , where I'll be picking them up perhaps as early tomorrow.

Then there was Dusty, he was my beraggled sickly stray whom I was asked to foster for the SPCA when the ISU room was being painted. For three weeks I gave this boy meds, gave him lots of TLC and then with heavy heart I was asked to return him as they considered him now adoptable and wanted to get him a home before kitten season. I felt so quilty returning him to a SPCA cage as all my other fosters had been adopted directly from my home and the paperwork was done at the SPCA.

I wrote a glowing report about him along with 3 touching photos which was posted on their website. Kept track of him...then was sooooo upset as he dissapeared. No transferred or adopted as there usually is...dissapearance is usually very bad news. I was devastated as under normal circumstances fosters are usually given notice and given an option to adopt if that were to happen. They had changed their policies as a result of many foster parents nursing cats back to health only to have them put down. The new policy now allows foster parents to adopt them at half price and be told of any impending things regarding the animal they fostered.

Not so with Dusty. The co-ordinators didn't know what happened. My sister and I phoned all the local SPCA's and Petcetra's (they often showcase SPCA animals for better exposure). In an nutshell and a fluke of some sort Dusty was transferred 70 miles away..to a shelter which in turn flooded that weekend and was shut down and then transferred again to a Petcetra store where he's been for the last 25 days. After 30 days he's supposed to yet again go back to a small cage at the shelter. As he's in a different local from my area I have to pay full price for him..120 dollars. Oh woe is me but I'm still going to ask if I can possibly get him for half price. I also can't rest knowing he's there and want him back.

Urg..I can't save them all but developed a relationship with him and a bond after nursing him back to health after his illness then neutering which I took him in for. I have to go get him and give him a forever home.

Sigh...then there's the three ferals my sister offered to take for yet another animal agency as her hobby farm was a place where they could also enjoy life. The first night she placed them in her sunroom..blocked off the fireplace entrance but one escapee climbed up and was trapped!!! The fireplace (one of three) was a series of tunnels in the walls that led to the main chimney.Long weekend and many calls to various workmen ..her bricks and walls had to be torn open but the cat was saved!!! She too is now counting her pennies.

Yup I can see us together in another 20 more years...two zany spinster ladies with a gazillion cats, dogs, bunnies, guinea pigs...pigs....and whatever else needs a home. :excited:

I couldn't agree more. Once the heart attaches itself its hard to let go.
I agree with Jo, it doesn't even come as a 8O . Frozen to the door? Now that comes as a shock. All those critters will be coming to earthly heaven at your home Marianne. I know you will enjoy them as well.
Oh, and I hope you win the lottery!
You are truly amazing Marianne.
Thank you for helping these animals.
Marianne you have the biggest heart :ghug:
Marianne, you are truly a wondeful woman, my heart always melts when I read your posts.

Don't forget to pick dandelions for your Guinea Pig - I ended up buying a guinea pig the other week, because the boy in the petshop was saying he was going to get it and make it do tricks and I thought, oh no you don't you little sod, so £60 later,(cage/food/toys etc) I walk out with Louis !!

Gook luck xxxx
Ooh - you just made me smile! :)
There's surely a place in heaven for you, Marianne! You have a heart of gold, bless your soul!
:D Good luck with all the new additions, Marianne.

You too with Louis, Kayla!

Haha- Nothin wrong with that!!

I can't wait to see pictures of the new kids!
As long as you can stay on this side of the line and not cross over to horder, you are fine. The drive to protect all these babies can interfere with common sense until you truly are dead broke with so many sick animals......that's when the SPCA steps in and removes them all.

Pace yourself. Set a budget and when you continually break it, reevaluate. Get some animals to new fur-ever homes. They can't all live with your, no matter how much property you own. Start educating the communities about proper animal care and responsibility.....go to schools, wherever.

Other option is one of you is going to have to go to vet school....
I'm thinking I'm only good in this life time as I must have been evil in my former life...(nyuck nyuck) and now making amends in this one.

SheepieBoss - You are absolutely correct about "collectors". Usually involves woman who started off with good intentions and then take on far more animals than they can handle. They start off with well meaning but as a result of a host of animals - the animals fare badly as a result - not getting the care and attention they deserve. I've read many stories regarding that and most often they accumulate so many, they can't keep up with the spaying and neutering of the pets and soon the situation is out of control. Awareness is the key and no animal comes into our home unless they are spayed and neutered.

Arthur was too old for neutering but I had Puff spayed as a result of his impending arrival.

Thanks for bringing it to everyone's attention as I often speak to my sister about this. I consider myself the more logical of the two of us while she operates totally on emotions. Sadly we can't save them all and I do tell her whatever we do we always have to give the best care possible. It's horrible but the sad fact is we can't save them all and that's so hard at times.

I feel I am at my limit and unless there is an emergency I have to step back and take care of the ones under my roof.

Just picked up Arthur and William and yes I will be picking up Dusty this weekend perhaps. I had desperately hoped he'd be adopted by someone who would provide him with a forever home. I have until Sunday before I believe he'll be transferred to a shelter.

Thanks for all the well wishes everyone.

My computer died a few days ago so unable to post pics but hope to get it fixed in a couple days.

Can we get a bowing down in awe smiley? Seriously. Wow.
I have been trying not to post this but I really can't hold it anymore. I know this is going to be cheesy but I really have to say it....

Marianne... YOU ARE MY HERO!!!!...There, I said it... I feel better now :P
Maybe we could all just agree to pool our resources when we get old, and start a "Crazy Animal Ladies" retirement home?!
Thanks for all the kind words everyone.

There are many unsung heros whom do this daily and far more than me..we all do what we can and while some have done it several years. The burn out rate is high in rescue and I applaud those who've done it for years and years.

Each one of us has the power to change a life. I often say you can't save them all but you can make the difference to even just one ...you are also a hero. There are many heros whom stepped up and rescued on this board. Others help out by sending a donation to an animal organization, still others on this board have banded together and pooled their money to help a Sheepie whom desperately needed medical treatment. You guys are all wonderful!

Each of us has different circumstances and those with young children also have an important task. As some slowly step aside after years in rescue there hopefully will be others whom will take up the job. Sadly there will always be a demand.

Marianne

Raven and other interested parties , the Crazy Animal Ladies will have their first meeting in 20??...maybe we can all chose to wear animal prints? (fake of course) and grey and white fluffy hats.
If anyone can handle all this it's certainly you Marianne :) . You have the biggest heart of anyone I know!
