Speaking of Lumps, Bumps, Tumors and Warts.......

I discovered a hardened lump on Oscar's back leg two weeks ago, right on the back bend of his hock. Due to its location, my vet tried a needle biopsy first, but they could not get a clear read on it (possible spindle cells), so he had the tumor removed on Monday. :(

Oscar is doing fine, not even limping. He's such a good boy! The vet didn't like the way it looked, but we won't know anything for a few days until the histopathology report comes back. So keep your fingers crossed folks.... We are hoping it was a callus, or a trauma gone awry, and nothing more serious.

Now, I get to vent. Have you ever tried to keep a dog's leg bandage dry in a BLIZZARD!!??? We are in the midst of 4 - 7 inches of heavy, wet, sodden snow. Perfect for snowballs, but not for a sheepie who just had surgery! Since his Muttluks would rub on the incision site, I can't use them. Every time we go out, I wrap the bandage in Saran Wrap, put a tube sock over it, and then put his foot in a plastic grocery bag. The looks I get from the poor pup! I am definitely on Oscar's %@#& List! Is Spring here yet??????

Poor Oscar! :( Sending you lots of good thoughts for a clean biopsy...
Ugh, that sucks about the snow too. No suggestions here, Im afraid, we had to do the same thing to our boy last month when he had a bump on his foot removed (turned out to be a wart  )
Have you tried vet wrap??I don't know where on his leg the bump was removed but this stuff sticks to its self. It was first used for horses I think but you can find it at most pet stores. I hope he feels better!!
Poor Oscar!! and you! I will be keeping my fingers crossed for a good report from the vet and from the weatherman.
Awww poor Oscar, poor mom too, keeping fingers and paws crossed the report comes back all good.

Hugs for your both. :ghug:

Hope spring is going to shine through real soon.
Hi.

I hope Oscar recovers quickly and I know how hard it is to see one of our furkids when they are ailing. Sending lots of love and belly rubs to Oscar. Please keep us posted as to how he's doing.

I hope Oscar heals quickly. :)
Sending wishes that Oscar heals and gets better quickly.
I had the same thought - vet wrap! I love that stuff. definitely a wonderful product. Between dogs and horses at my house, i always keep a couple rolls on hand.

I hope Oscar is healing and gets good news on the biopsy. :D
Hoping for good news for Oscar! When do we expect to get results?

Vet wrap looks just like self-adhering bandage tape for humans. I've been meaning to check which is cheaper. It is definitely great for the lower limbs but probably not so great if the area is on a hip or thigh.
Thanks for the well wishes everyone. I think there is vet wrap already on Oscar's "boo boo", as it's self-adhering and has little paw prints all over it. He is taped from just above his paw to just below his knee, and that is what I have to keep clean and dry. We go to the vet tomorrow for a bandage change and wound check, but I don't think I will get lab results until next week. :(

Oscar is handling everything like a champ. He doesn't even acknowledge the bandage, let alone bother it in any way. He's such a good boy! Our only issue is that he has to miss out on our daily walks for at least two weeks, and he's getting a bit of cabin fever. Not much we can do, as he has to be kept still and quiet if we have a shot at healing his leg up without additional surgery or skin grafts. He's doing great so far! :)

He's my sweetie pie!

Laurie
I'm glad he appears doing well and will be waiting anxiously for the news of his next vet visit tomorrow. We'll be thinking of you and Oscar.

Marianne
Great news!!!! Oscar's histopath came back and it was a non-malignant fibrous tumor. Yea!!!! :go:

Not sure what caused it, but the vet surmises that it was from some sort of trauma or insect bite, that then thickened because of it's location on a pressure point. Based upon its nature, he doesn't think the growth will recur.

Oscar is doing so well. My vet changed the bandage today, and everything looked great. No swelling, not a hint of redness, nothing, just the row of sutures. This was the best possible outcome so we are very, very happy. :D :D :D

Now we just have to keep him under control for the next week or so, until the sutures are removed! It's hard to keep a good sheepie down!

Thanks again for all of the good thoughts and well wishes.

:yay: YAY great news. :cheer:
That's GREAT NEWS!!!!!!

Yay!
Oh Oscar, we were holding our breath waiting for the results. Diagnosis of a lump or bump is always a scary time.

Ellie and Buff send high 4 :high5:
Laurie and Oscar,

I'm so very happy the news turned out the way it did!!!! Yippiiiiiiiii!!!! :yay:

Marianne
Oh Thank Goodness!!!! I am so happy to hear such good news :phew: :yay: :hearts:
Great news! :D
Thanks everyone!!!! We are so very relieved. :phew:
Hooray for Oscar!!
I'm so glad the results for Oscar were good news :cheer:
I'm happy that everything came out well. Did you get to see the tumor?
Jill, I KNEW you would ask!!!!!

I had every intention of seeing the tumor after the surgery, but they had Oscar ready for me right when I got there, and it was hard enough to get all of the pertinent info on his post-op care, and keep him relatively calm, so it totally slipped my mind. Bummer! But from the vet's description, it was pretty nasty - he was very nervous waiting for the results. And it doesn't help that we are friend's with my vet and his wife, just to add a little pressure for him! But all is well. He was as relieved as we were!

Sorry Jill.

Laurie
I wish I hadn't mistaken this for Marianne's older post, I could've told you: you MUST ask ahead of time so they have it waiting for you at the same time of the pickup. I agree, it isn't a last minute request!

The other reason I asked was I wondered if you were surpised at how giant it was. I couldn't believe the size of the thing that came off of Clyde. Those things go deep sometimes.
:D That is wonderful that you got good news!!! :D
Our vet was very surprised at how deep and invasive it was below the skin, so I can only imagine how big the thing was. On the outside, there was a round bump, about the size of a dime, on the left side of the
hock, raised about 1/2 inch. Then the growth wrapped around the back of the hock in a cigar shape, about an inch long and 1/2 inch wide. Very odd.

Due to the size and location, we are so glad our vet is a miracle worker and was able to close it without skin grafts.

Life is good!!!
