What can I feed her, with the loose bowels? She is so hungry |

Tramadol can be habit forming and any medication can potentially cause GI side effects. In this case though..Tramadol may cause constipation or diarrhea ( especially constipation) at least that's the case in humans. Now...when Charlie, my oes mix, was a puppy he had diarrhea for couple of days too..well I took him to the vet and he ended up having some kind of a worm for which he got medications and the vet also said to boil ground beef and give it to him with rice otherwise Science diet has the combination of ground beef and rice if I am not mistaken. I would check with the vet ..unless somebody else has any other suggestions. Hope this helps. |
Maybe I missed a post somewhere...
How old is she? Has she had surgery, have cancer, or arthritus? If her immune system is down she is more susceptable to picking up a virus, bacteria, or worm. I'd call your vet to see what they think. |

Your last line made me sooooo sad. If she's hungry, I would suggest: chicken or turkey baby food, plain rice cakes or plain cheerios (recommended to us by a vet years ago), canned green beans and give it with the water too because it helps them to feel full. I recently found out that fresh or frozen are better because canned has sodium nitrate that doesn't have to be listed. Also when you give the boiled chicken give the broth too. Mine seem to really love the water or broth. Spot's Stew made by Halo and sold online or at PETCO. And I definitely agree to keep up with talking to the vet if this is ongoing. to your baby. |

Could this be related to the trembling that you have mentioned recently?
Please be sure to mention to the Vet at her checkup Monday- and if she becomes any worse please call and let them know what is happening with B. |
It is so sweet for you all to care. I appreciate it so much. I took B to her local vet for her diarreah. He gave her Immodium, she is good now. I am giving her rice and chicken mixed in with her Nutro. She only eats the rice and chicken. I would like to mix some of the baby food or other suggestions above with her dog food because I don't know how long the chicken will stay fresh. After 2 days I throw it away. I don't want anything else to make her sick. she seems so weak .She is down to 55 lbs I called the vet in SAT and he did not know what the trembling was about. Maybe she is weak. The jerking he would have to look at Monday. Her right shoulder seems to jerk a lot even when she is sleeping.
All this is so hard for me,( and B) B is the only Dog we have had for 13 years and she has never been sick . I did not even know the hind leg condition existed. She has had upset stomach but that is all. Should I leave the dry food out and think if she gets hungry enough she will eat it or stop the dry or what? The vet said to do the mixing with dry and that if was hungry enough she would eat. Well she is hungry and she does not eat the dry. |
Hi,
I'm so sorry you are going through this and just wanted to offer you my support to you and B. I think the important thing is to keep feeding her what she likes as she needs to keep her strength up. Lots of sloppy sheepie kisses to B from my three boys. Please keep us updated and I'll be thinking of you. Marianne and the boys |
OK, Now B has not had a bm for 2 days. I fed her a little rice in her dry food, she hardly ate any, I think she missed the chicken and beef. I have a hugh bag of dry food, so how do I do this? What do I mix in with it to get her started back eating it? And to have a bm? Do I get canned dog food or the baby food,or do I cook chicken and beef? I just want it all back to normal! She goes to SAT Monday and I want her to have some strength. She ate our pizza crust without any problem!!!
Please help me, I have rice cakes for a snack after we go outside but I want her strength to come back. Altho she walks and moves her back legs with the assist of the sling. Her back toes go under at times, But she can stand, I don't know if she is just balanced or if she knows she is standing. So I think the question is what do I do about her eating, I just mixed her dry food and rice, it is still sitting there. Cooked, canned.or what? I need her to get strength and a bm. Thank you |
Tasker often goes on boiled chicken and rice because of diarrhea. When we switch back to dry food I usually do a day of mixing rice and dry food to help with the transition, it never takes more than two days to get him back on the dry.
I wouldn't feed the canned, it could be too rich for the pups delicate digestive system and go right back to diarrhea. |
B is 13 years young. As long as I know she will begin eating the dry again, I think I can wait, I just don't her to loose strength and be real weak for her ph Monday |
Is she drinking enough fluids? it helps with dehydration from past diarrhea and it helps with bm, as well. |
To help her get interested in the Dry food again, boil some chicken, use some of the broth from that and pour a bit over the dry and shred some of the cooked chicken through that, you could also add cooked mashed pumpkin or sweet potato as well to make the dry more appealing to her |
I went out to do yard work so I left the door open so I could hear B if she barked or needed anything. I am outside a few minutes and I turn around and there is B!!! She was on carpet when I left her inside and I guess she got her hind legs just right and away she came. She had not even tried to get up before. I just stood there not if to move or not. she walks more toward and her hind legs gave out.
Later tonight she got up again. I am in shock. So what do I do now? I mean what to focus on working on? I know I still need to go to Sat Monday, but I would like to know what you all think. I think you all have been more of a help than my vets Thank you again. Glenda |
This a good thing! Yay B!
She is getting stronger and gaining more control of her body. |
Way to go B! |
