LOL... herding is something that the dogs have many participants, rather unwilling ones, but still... Dancer herds all of us all the time, th kids, the cats, myself... and her and Sky try to herd each other. But you said organized....
I am planning on showing both my dogs, and train with them daily for both obedience and conformation. We don't go to actual classes yet as I wasn't able to find one until recently. I'm not sure when the next group starts. |
This is not really a formal activity - but Chelsea loves the dog park in our neighborhood, it's a big fenced park with trees and rolling hills - it's a couple of acres, it's great because when there are other dogs there her size they run and herd each other. Some of the more aggressive herders think she IS the sheep, so they nip and bark at her, but she's learning to hold her own and she gets them running and then pulls out her OES herding tricks, knocking them over and tripping them (just like she does to us!)-
Does anyone know where one can take their OES to actually herd some sheep? Do they have training farms for dogs where the animal can experience the whole thing? Just curious- seems it would be the right thing to do, and if you are preparing the animal for any sort of dog show they have to be able to herd right? Up. |
