I don't understand your last sentence........I'm tired so my brain is fuzzy. I'd call the county clerk and start the ball moving. Could be somebody hijacked the check? You don't know the check number? |
How do you not know that they've been paid? Wouldn't you have a heck of a lot of extra money in your account if they hadn't been? |
Wow. |
Ours are escrowed into our mortgage, but you can call the tax office and they should be able to tell you. I know here, they list the delinquent accounts in the newspaper. If someone else pays them for a length of time (I think 3 years?), they become the rightful owners of the property, so they have to publish them in the papers to warn the owners, I guess. |
What an odd place to come for tax advice!! |
^^^
I've been dying to say that. For someone to come here and see a banner that says OES' and confidently post a topic about taxes (no pre-exisiting one). |
Well, you know me....... I say what others are thinking (and usually get in trouble for it) |

You didn't post what I was thinking. In fact I didn't post what I was really thinking. |

Don't you have bank statements? Even if you don't keep them
the bank should be able to print them for you, provided you have an idea when they were paid. If not your only option might be to call the county tax office. I assume you would have gotten a notice that they were past due if you still owed them. Shellie |

I would think that too since ours are $6,000 in NJ for under a 1/4 acre of land, but I keep forgetting that some parts of the country could be as cheap as a few hundred.... |
Oh my yes, someone was complaining that their taxes were $1800 and that their parent's home (similarly assessed) just up the street was only $500.
In Boston proper, residential property taxes are quite low compared to property values because the city has a dual rate -- much higher for commercial property than residential. But out here about 25 miles west of the city, our tax rate is about $13 per thousand which sounds low until you see the assessments and do the math. I have an acquaintance who moved from a nice area of New York because his property taxes had gone from $12,000 to more than $20,000 in one year. Can you imagine? |
$20,000 is greater than the average income in New Mexico.
I guess it's all relative, if you have the money then $20,000 may not seem so bad. Looking at it from the other side........it is obscene. |

One advantage of living in the South! |

I agree - that is an obscene amount of money for property taxes. Gail's right - one advantage of living in the south is the taxes. I'd guess the average here to be well under $2k. |
My sister-in-law just told me her property tax (they live in Iowa) - $20. Yep that's right...$20. It makes my bill in New Hampshire look positively obscene. |

My summer ones are that much and I live on a 50x100 lot in the city. |
