I got it on Black Friday 2005 for about $170. New ones can now be had at about the same price. How much do you think they want to charge to repair the monitor? $100 flat rate (for parts, labor and shipping ) if the panel itself is not bad (it's not). $200 flat rate if the panel needs to be replaced. No wonder we live in a throw-away society. Apparently from my description in my email, a tech thinks I need an "internal power supply". I wonder if I can find a monitor with a busted panel for parts. |

Monitors are one of those things I have too many of. We
get the "old" ones from Vic's work when they get new stuff. I gave 4 away last year, and now I have another 2 to get rid of. Too bad mine are 17", or I'd send you one. I am too cheap to buy one or I'd get a 19" too. Shellie |
I have my original small screen Compaq monitor from when we got this computer umpteen million years ago. I think its a 13 "????
Thanks to my computer savvy BIL, he has upgraded this computer so many times, that it still is as good (or better) than the new ones!! I would love a bigger monitor though! |
I'm surprised there is no warranty. We recently returned an Epson Printer that crapped out a few months after heavy use and they swapped it out for us. |
my sympathies!! |
The one year warranty expired 5 months ago.
Looking on eBark, I find several monitors with exactly the same issue. Seems like it's a design issue. But there are none with broken screens that I could salvage for the bad part. Unbelievably, someone with the same problem just SOLD theirs for about $80 plus shipping. Maybe I should just sell mine (of course fully disclosing the issue) and buy a new one. |
If you can sell it, that's the way to go. Start new. |
Ron, do you only use one monitor? |
Unfortunately, this PC only has a single video card. I'd of had two buy now; this one and the big'un.
I'm looking at this one HANNS-G HW223DPB 22" Widescreen LCD TFT Display Monitor as a possibility ... but it's a lot of money for a monitor nowadays. It does come with a 3 year warranty. |
Well that was silly, the slideout has a pic, but the landing page didn't. If Amazon.com weren't so big, they'd be out of business, I swear.

I run two 20" Dell flat panels (3:4), which I opted for instead of widescreen. Once you have two, you'll never be able to function with one again! |
I'm having enough trouble with one 15" instead of my 19". |
This used to be my setup:

Ron,
You are kidding aren't you? |
It did because it was no longer under warranty. My last on died 2 days after the warranty ran out.
Had me thinking they put some kind of self destruct chip in it. It just shut off and was dead. |
Lol. The sad part is that it really IS someone's setup-- and you know it was just for that flight simulator too. Nerd alert! |

My spouse just passed out, this photo was just too much for my arm chair pilot .... |
Yes, that is not my setup.
It's a little old -- look at how much electricity he'd be using, more than a kilowatt just to keep the monitors on, and if he's in a warm climate the air conditioning would be expensive too! |
Sheesh and just when I was going to start giving you the name Cap'n Kirk you blew it for me Ron!
Sorry to hear about your troubles and hope you find a super good deal. Marianne |
