Could anyone who's willing to do so, post a picture of a piece of the kibble that they feed next to a quarter (so we're all using the same sizing standard), along with what food it is? It sounds lame, but it might be a pretty good resource for anyone else who just wants to know what the food looks like. It will definitely save me a few bucks because I think I'm going to donate this Canidae to rescue! Jill |

Ok, took the pictures.... will post later.

Hi,
My camera isn't working at the moment (dead battery) but I have always fed my boys small bite size kibble (Iams). Merlin and Panda can handle the bigger kibble but Ole Blue whom eats slower and has senior teeth seems to handle the smaller kibble better so as I result I purchase it. It's hard enough in the mornings to get dog/cat/bunny/guinea pig food ready without worrying about another bag of food. I also feed canned food on top of the cats kibble and cut up fresh veggies for the smaller creatures. Although each eats in different rooms...whazzat you have a mess? Not me..every square inch is clean and not a crumb is left. If someone misses something the others will be sure to pick it up. I realize my household is a bit unusual in regards to pets...but in a nutshell Small bite size pieces (aprox dime size). Marianne and the boys |

Consider yourself lucky! No, what I really want is to have the pictures so that when I (or someone else) is looking to switch to a new food, we can have a visual reference at the ready which may make the selection process easier if someone needs to transition. |
All my guys eat the small kibble. Main reason is MO hates the larger kibble. So everyone has to follow MO's lead. And she still eats one kibble at a time........the dogs stand around watching her eat, "Come on MO, eat faster. We want our after dinner cookie!" |
Ok, I'm still waiting approval! I guess a Monday is too busy of a day
Today is Chewie's weekly grooming/partial bath day to look nice before dog school, so I will pop back in! |
Not the best picture, but the size shows!
I feed a mix. The larger is Nutro Natural Choice Large Breed Adult Lamb and Rice. The smaller one is NutriSource Lamb Meal and Rice. The NutriSource is made in MN, and I'm not sure how wide the distribution is. Made by KLN Enterprises and the web site is: www.nutrisourcedogfood.com Also, based on some forum members advise, I am doing a main ingredient rotation, to prevent allergies and other problems. The other food in my rotation is Canidae - which is primarily chicken. I fed Canidae for almost a year, and have been on the lamb about 3 months. I made the switch with all 7 dogs, and all have done well. Actually, even the cat starts eating this mix before I let the dogs in to eat! |
That's so interesting that they make a mess with small kibble....
Yuki doesn't chew, so I find small kibble entices her to do so more... She's had large kibbles (I mean very large), and she just swallows it, so I get scared. Hope you find a kibble you like! |
Ok, I'm posting all mine that I've got in the house (and I'm hoping people will post more of theirs!).
Canidae All Life Stages Merrick Wilderness Blend Nutro Ultra Large Breed ProPlan Senior (Lamb and Rice) I took one of Merrick Smothered Comfort canned food too for anyone who hasn't seen it. It doesn't exactly photograph like filet mignon but you can see how rich and meaty it is with real hunks of meat-- those are whole chicken thighs, raw bones and all. It actually smells great! For anyone who could still post their food, I'm particularly interested in Pinnacle and any of the Innova line. The boys do not like the Canidae and I'd like to move them to something new but I'd like to see what some of it looks like before buying it. |
I have both of mine on Nutro Ultra, which you know the size of.
They don't care what size kibble.....they are both hoovers... |
OK, so I'll take a piccy of some kibble for y'all, right?
First, I liked the cardboard background, so I had to go find some cardboard. OK, I found the cardboard, but I needed to cut it out of the box, so I need to find a pair of scissors. OK, I found the scissors and cut out the cardboard, and put it on the floor. Now I need to find a quarter for the size scale reference. No quarter in my pants. No quarter in our change "spots" I'll ask Joan. Joan says it's in her pocketbook. Where's my pocketbook. So she goes looking for her pocketbook, and I keep searching for a quarter. Couch cusions? Nope. Finally in the kitchen I find a quarter. A minute later Joan returns with hers. Oooops. Should have told her to call off the hunt, but I suppose she needs her pocketbook anyway. So now I have the cardboard and the quarter. Get some kibble. I get the kibble and put it with the quarter on the cardboard. Camera. I need my camera. I disconnect the camera from the computer just as I hear-- Mulligan approaching. He heard me in the kibble. He LOVES his kibble. A quick "LEAVE IT" and he freezes in his tracks, but his salivary glands don't stop. I keep him there while I snap a pic. Now I felt sorry for him, he hadn't had his breakfast, so I release him (I removed the quarter first, of course). OK, kibble gone, back on track. Put the quarter back... but the cardboard is wet. Well, ok, I'm not much of a perfectionist anymore. More kibble, Joan has to restrain the dog. Here is your stupid pic already. Wellness is triangular in shape, OK? I need a vacation. |
Look at that drool, slobber... must have been hungry. |
Lol. Thanks for your many efforts, Ron. I didn't intend on it being such a process! |
I use Purina One Sensitive Systems, it's a very small kibble. Tasker is a HOGGER and doesn't chew properly. You would think a large kibble would slow him down but not so, he gobbles the large then vomits. He still gobbles with the small but for some reason it's more easily digested and he vomits less. |
Mulligan LOVES his kibble. I think he would rather have his kibble than most treats. |
This is Innova Large Breed dog food...
We've fed Nelson Eagle Pack, Merrick and Innova and he likes the Innova best. The chunks aren't huge but are larger than Eagle Pack or Merrick. |
Ooh, thanks Nita. That actually looks like a pretty decent size.
Yesterday I actually slipped like I fell on a bunch of marbles in the kitchen because Bear had dropped about half the contents of his bowl on the floor and I made the mistake of not turning the light on. |
Aw Lawdy, Jill!!! You be careful!! The LAST thing you need is a broken ankle or wrist two weeks before the wedding!! |
The DENTAL versions of many brands tend to be very large. Nutro may have one too. |
Here is a photo of Frank's food:

Thank you very much, Mr. Helper! |
Since I took some pics today, I saw no reason not to take a picture of Yuki's food. I couldn't get her Purina Sensitive stomach (flash made pic bad), but this is Science Diet z/d (allergies).
