I started giving Buddy a dose of Syn-flex a couple of days ago. It seemed to be helping him with his painful hips. I got home from lunch today to find the living room covered with stool from (what appeared to be) a long morning of explosive diahrea. He ran outisde when I opened the door and had another bout, this time with a considerable amount of blood mixed with the discharge... I read a lot about Syn-flex before I ordered it and had not seen any negative reports. I'm really concerned that I've hurt my dog with this stuff. I'm wondering if they sent me the wrong forumla... the one that isn't for pets (there is no mention of pets on the bottle). I was mixing the daily dosage in with his food (1/4 oz). He is a 93 lbs dog and was getting double the dosage for the first ten days as the instructions stated. Of course I'm taking him off of it immediately. It is too bad because it appeared to be helping him. Has anyone else had problems with Syn-flex? Thanks Alan |

Ooooooh, that sounds terrible! Are you sure it's from the Syn-Flex alone, and that he's not sick with anything else? Have you taken him, or at least a stool sample, to the vet? Have you spoken to your vet about it?
Syn-Flex sounds very close to Flexi-cose, which is what we give Drez. A 1/4 oz on her food daily, and it really has helped her. She never experienced any side effects from it so I can't help you there. I hope Buddy feels better soon! |
Please contact the vet. |
We just got back from the vet and it looks like Giardia. I also sent an e-mail to Synflex and got an immediate (I mean, like 2 minutes) phone call from them. Great people there. They assured me there wasn't anything in Synflex that would cause Buddy's symptoms.
I'm betting he picked up the Giardia (if that is what it is) from drinking creek water. It is run-off season right now. He loves the creek... but it probably isn't the cleanest at the moment. buddy is miserable... the house smells like a monkey-house at the zoo , but we've got new meds and a brand new carpet cleaner. Hopefully he'll feel better in a day or two. Alan |
You did great! Good for you for taking him right in. Now he can get on the road to feeling better

Believe me... with 6 dogs, I've been there. Luckily not all sick with the poos at once though. |
GET WELL BUDDY! You've been through a lot lately! |
Get well Buddy!! and trust me I know about the poopie explosion nothing like coming home to walls, rugs, dog bed and wood floors covered in it!! Monkey smells go away...after a while |
Poor Buddy! We are sending a get well hug your way. |
Good medical detective work. I hope Buddy is feeling better soon. |
Poor kid Having been through giardia I know the mess. My vet gave all 4 of my guys a series of 2 shots paced 2 weeks apart. Sorry, I can't remember what the name is but it was developed at MI State. That was really the only thing that helped them, it's been over 6 years with no reoccurrence. |
Well all is better now. Buddy was feeling almost 100% after one day. We stayed out of town over this weekend while I was working and his friend River (black lab) had the same thing happen to him the first day we were there...
It is unknown if Buddy passed it on (doubtful... they were only together about four hours before he got sick), or got it from drinking creek water. Since it is run off season, and we are surrounded by agricultural land, I'm betting River got it from the creek water. It hits fast, then is gone. River was feeling better in about 12 hours. Thanks for all the warm fuzzie thoughts! Buddy and I appreciate it! Alan |
Oxy Clean (the kind that comes in the dual metal canisters) and Fabreeze will help get rid of the monkey house smell. I haven't experienced a stain that Oxy can't get out of carpet (however yellow mustard takes a couple treatments)
Glad to hear Buddy is on the mend. |
