New Car Advice

I'm buying a new car. I'm very excited, but have some questions. Right now I have a 2004 Escape SUV. Tony picked it out for me, and I didn't even see it until I picked it up. It is really nice, and has served me well (and has many good years and miles left). But...I'm just not a truck girl.

Pirate will not get into it himself. He will lift his front legs, and then I have to lift his rear legs to get him in the back, so now he rides in the backseat. Pirate has never been fond of going car-car.

I am looking at two cars, Toyota Camry and Toyota Solara. I like them both very much, but I love the Solara. It's sexy, and I need all the image help I can get.

The big question with the Solara is that it is a coupe, and I'm concerned about Pirate having to climb in the back, over a pushed forward seat. I suppose he could ride in front with me, and little Keira could go in the back.

I'm going to look at them both Saturday. If the Solara isn't practical, I'll get the Camry...BUT I'M SICK OF BEING PRACTICAL!!!! I NEED SOME SPICE IN MY LIFE!!! :excited: (Thanks, I feel better now.)

The dealer said I'm welcome to bring Pirate so he can test ride, but buying a car can take hours, and I don't know if he will be patient enough.

Any advice, please????

Take Pirate for a test ride!

Just for the record if Pirate likes going car-car enough he will figure out how to squeeze in the back seat. I used to drive around the sheepdog I had growing up in a two-door Mustang and she would ride in the back. She weighed over 100 lbs. 8O

Get the sporty coupe. You go girl!
Get the coupe. Anyway, how often does Pirate ride with you if he doesn't like car-car? If you have to have Baby P. test the car, leave him home and drive the car over on Saturday. That way he doesn't have to hang out at the dealership.

And make sure you get a red car.
If the back seat folds down flat, I think he will be fine. Callie rides in the back of our 2-door cavalier, and she loves it. It works better than being in an actual seat b/c there is more flat space for her...
The Solara would definately be RED. The Camry Sky blue.

Hmmmm....do I detect a mid-life crisis?????????????????????
I used to have both.. the Camry (old persons car.. no offense to the older people.. I'm almost there) and a Solara, In fact I owned the Solara when I was a one dog family.. My Berner.. he was about 120lbs at the time.. and he had no problem getting in and out of the back.. then Murphy came along.. so I went with an SUV.

I loved my Solara.. practical (Toyota), but very sporty..

Go with the Solara.. add some spice to your life sister.....
And I would be the opposite! I would love an Escape. In fact I tried so hard to win one! They were giving one away through Canidae dog food and I was hoping - but I didn't win. :(

I always drove the truck instead of the car as a teenager, and I haven't changed. I even loved my 3 minivans we had while the kids were growing up.

My little escort is purple, and sporty with a spoiler, but it still isn't a truck! Of course, I can always "borrow" Todd's big Dodge 4x4 pickup when I need a truck fix.
Good luck with car shopping.

I'm clueless about Toyota's, but in retrospect wish
I had chosen a Status with 4 doors.
The coupe is
sleek and sexy, but when taking Bogart along- it's difficult for him
to get in and out of the backseat. He travels alot
with me, so next time I would definitely go with the 4 door. :D
The Escape has been a great vehicle. It rides great. Mine only has 33,000 on it, a moonrooof, remote start. I like it because its not huge and is great on gas mileage.

BUT! I've never had a truck before, and, well....I'm ready to go back to a car.

A SPORTY RED CAR! :P
I think the new Camry body style is very sporty. Definitely wouldn't mind having one.
My MIL just bought one, traded in her 2000 Mustang for it and couldn't be happier.
I owned a 1998 Camry for many years, I would never say it was an old lady car. It had major, major power for a 4 cylinder. (I'd say it had the same is not more power than my 5.0L Jeep Cherokee and that had power!!) It was also the smoothest driving car I have ever owned.... even at traveling at speeds over 100 mph. 8)

I currently own a Honda CR-V  which I call the Flintstone mobile. Everytime I start going up a hill I tell everyone to start running as fast as they can. I HATE my Honda!!! I would have rather kept my Camry with 140,000 miles on it! Instead I bought this car with many, many less miles on it, but it does not even compare to my Camry. :(
This Honda is the only car I know of that loses speed going down a hill. 8O Are all Honda's like that?

Sorry to go a bit off topic...lol Just needed to say how unhappy I am with the CR-V. Even though I got a great deal on it....
One day hopefully soon I will be driving a toyota again. :plead:

I MISS MY CAMRY!!!!

Never driven the Solara, but I know it is actually a Camry in coupe form.... lol So I'm sure it's a great car. The Camry might be more practical though.
I got a van to carry two big dogs, now I want something sporty and fast.. I have to agree with the idea that if they will get in it, get the sporty one.
My two Sheepies and their Golden Retriever brother fit in my Mustang. 8O In the back seat. 8O 8O Two hundred and 60 lbs of dogs.
But they want to go, so they manage.
For longer trips, we take the SUV.
Elissa! There ya go with that nasty word again, "Practical"!!! I'm an accountant! I'm a-l-w-a-y-s practical!!!

When the 1990 (GULP) Celica's came out, I fell in love with it. I was married to my first husband then, and he bought me one for my birthday. I LOVED THAT CAR! The Solara reminds me of it. We had Cupcake the sheepie then, and he rode in the front with me.

After our divorce, I traded in the Celica and bought a Camry. I also loved that!

I think Toyotas are great cars. I'm going this AM (after weight watchers) and will probably come home with a new car.

I think I'll rely on heart instead of head today!!!!!!!!
But sometimes the heart surprises us and gets practical! (Purchase report to follow!)
Wishing you the Best of Luck Deb!!!
Can't wait to hear all about your new car and see pictures. 8)
W're waiting, we're waiting!!!!
Its official. Go ahead, look out the front window. In the drive you'll see a shiny, "Absolutely Red" 2007 Toyota Solara! WHOO HOO!!!!!

I drove several cars. It was really a very hard decision. The Camry was great, but it seemed very big, and the colors I liked only came with very light interior (a big no no for my dogs).

The Solara was (as the baby bear would say) JUST RIGHT! And they had my red one, with a moonroof.

I work at a dealership (Dodge), but being an accountant don't have anything to do with the sales department. I was not prepared to be there for 4 hours!!!!

But...its a done deal, and I'm mighty happy!!! Pictures to follow! I have to wait for a sunny day!

Happy Easter all!
Woo hoo..is right!

Great great great...so glad that p word (practical) never took over.

Can't wait to see the pic of YOU in the car! (think pin up girl)
That is AWSOME Deb..... can't wait to see the pictures....

The great thing about the Solara is that it is practical and SPORTY at the same time.
Congratulations!

Drive it in good health.
That sounds cool!!! Can't wait to see the pictures :D
Wanted to update all of you on my new car.

Last weekend I took a road trip, to visit my daughter at U of I. Its 3 hours from home, almost 200 miles each way.

The new car (which was named Samantha by my daughter and her friends) was fabulous!

It was rock solid going 80 mph down I57, which is wide open spaces. I was able to hook up my IPod directly to the sound system (there is a special connector built in) and I jammed all the way!

I
:hearts: Samantha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you are so in love Deborah...I'm sure you wouldn't mind posing for some pictures with Samantha  :D
Woohoo! How exciting! Way to make some changes in 2007. Now about that job...

Yeah Deb, I wanna see your new car too!! :excited:
I'll have Tony take a few "snaps" this weekend. I think it will be sunny out, so that will be good.

And even if I'm not...
Samantha IS photogenic!
I've uploaded pics. I hope they end up with my pictures!!!!
Oh my gosh, that picture of you stuffing Pirate into the trunk is hilarious!

I love it! And, since it's a Toyota, it's still practical!!

Very fun, though. Vroom Samantha!
You and Samantha look stunning!! :D
