Diarreah
Yesterday the vet gave him Amforal, 3 doses, every 8 hours in hopes of clearing it up. But, last night (after the first dose) his poop was watery, so it had actually gotten worse. He is still eating and drinking, and playing normal, but I am so worried! Does anyone know if the Amforal should make it worse before it makes it better? The vet is closed today. Any ideas on hardening his stools? I have him on Science Diet, Large breed, the regular formula, adult-only because this is what the breeder had him on. He is eating 4-5 times a day, about 1/3 cup each time (more if he looks at me and says "mom, I'm freaking starving here"). |

| Did your vet recommend to fast for a day? Sometimes that helps then slowly go back with rice; then (brown) rice with chicken. Believe me I am there right now. I am actually cooking for mine and it has helped. Might be an idea for a couple days until it passes. I would ask your vet though what he thinks. Good Luck! |
| If it was just soft stool in the first place, I'd definitely consider changing foods. A better quality food will harden things u[p and should result in fewer "eliminations" as well. These days, I'd suggest only picking a new food that is holistic and wheat free and avoid corn and other fillers that won't be digested. At first, though, you should continue feeding whatever he is used to and make the transition gradually to a new food. | Just a thought....the rule of thumb is that dogs eliminate as many times a day as they get a meal. If Oliver is getting fed so frequently, you might be putting his digestive system into overdrive. I would try feeding him larger amounts less frequently. When Oscar was a young puppy, I fed him three times a day, and dropped that to twice a day at 6 months. He still gets fed twice a day, and will for the rest of his life.
