Ever since I've started making memories I've wanted a sheepie. So when I graduated college and got a stable job and still lived with my parents, the timing was perfect. I had plenty of family home to take care of the young pup while I was at work, and I had my parents' house/carpet to house train him. So off to North Carolina I went to pickup the 7-week old "Rudolph" who I immediately renamed Humphrey (the name was picked out long before he was). This was in January 2006 (About 1 month post graduation, go Hokies!). http://ic3.deviantart.com/fs9/i/2006/029/3/c/Humphrey_01_by_biggbuckz.jpg Five months later I moved from the farm, literally, to Historic downtown Richmond. Everyone, including myself, was worried about the beast living in a city apartment, but with a park literally one block away, I made the move. He has since grown to a nice 90 pounds and seems to love the city life. He sleeps in the bathtub and roams the apartment while I'm at work, and enjoys the frequent park visits, but he also loves walks through the shopping district of Carey Town, where he gets enough attention to feed the ego of 100 sheepdogs. He's everything I had expected of a sheepdog and the best roommate I could ask for. He doesn't pay rent, but he doesn't destroy anything or make messes, he listens amazingly well, and is a wonderful welcome home after a long days work. My friends all love him, but still think I'm crazy for having such a big dog with SO much fur, which I've yet to have to get professionally groomed (I swear I can handle it!). Is bathtime a pain? Oh indeed. Is nightly brushing exciting? Not at all, but having Humphrey, aka the Fluff-machine aka Fluffaluffagus, licking my face to wake me up every morning is certainly worth the work; and even in the not-so-gigantic apartment, he seems to be perfectly happy, which is most important. So that's the story of Humphrey and me, and without further adieu, http://filebox.vt.edu/users/bwolf/Public/HPIM2327.JPG Oh yes, and my name is Brandon. Nice to meet you. |
