Lightening - Outside?

Why does Miley feel the need to go out when the thunderstorms start rolling in? I taught her to ring a bell to go out and she keeps ringing to go out but I won't let her. She is driving me crazy tonight.

Not really seeking advice - just frustrated. Her routine is to lay on our back porch for a while later in the night and then come in. Afterward she is pretty mellow.

She is a creature of habit and she can't figure out why I won't let her go lay on the porch. I tried distracting with string cheese treats, peanut butter in a sterilized bone (which I rarely give these day). I even offered a screened porch.

I hope it does not rain tomorrow.

Thanks for letting me share my frustrations.

Ahhh they just don't understand do they - bless. How clever she can ring a bell :o

Ollie will get into the smallest place when thunder starts
:(

That maybe irritating, but believe me it is easier than a big dog that wants Mama to hold him during the storm.
I have the same exact problem with Breena. It thundered the other night and she kept ringing her bells. First the top door bells. So I let her lay in the entrance and she started on the to the outside bells. I took her out to show her it was raining and she just looked up like well where is this water coming from and then plopped down.
None of my other dogs are afraid of storms, so Chewie just ignored it like them. I doubt he actually noticed the lightning and thunder we had.

He is so hairy, he doesn't get wet in the rain either....The last couple days we had scattered rain. He didn't even start barking to come in when we had him out and it started pouring down on him. Silly boy.
Luckily we don't get thunderstorms too often here.
Pepsi is scared to death of them. He sits on the bed and shakes like a leaf.
And getting the dogs to go out in the rain to get them to go potty is a joke.

Sounds like Miley is a creature of habit and enjoys her usual routine.
Since we are not too far from you, we too had Lighting and thunder. Taylor my golden, who usually gets a little nervous when it storms suddenly started doing the "I gotta go" dance. I couldn't believe this was the same dog who will hold it forever in order not to get wet. Of course if Taylor goes out Simon does too. I have to let them out one at a time because Simon thinks it playtime and poor Taylor can't get the job done. So Taylor goes out and pees fast as you can and then whips back in, let Simon out and he takes two steps out sees that its raining and decides he really doesn't need to go and comes back in...Pam
