Nail Clipping for a Belly Rub

Dixie will do ANYthing for a good belly rub. So we decided to scrap the treats, the pleading, the threatening (kidding), and give her what works for her.

She has very ticklish feet, and it is hard to trim the fur on her feet between the toes and the pads. We bought a brand new pair of good, expensive, sharp scissors, and away we went.

First we get up on the table, with treats, and lay her down. A little massage to relax her, and I rub her belly. Between rubs I cut the mats on her underside, and then approach the feet. One hand rubs the belly while the other one cuts the fur around her foot. I don't restrain her in any way,,because I like grooming to be a relaxed, enjoyable experience.

There are times I do need to lift a foot and hold it so that I can get down into the pad and between the toes. She gets special soft, gentle belly rubs while I get ready. Then I need both hands to do each foot, and every 10 seconds or so she gets a rub. If she fusses or pulls, then I stop the rubs and drop the paw. Wait a few seconds, lift a paw and then a rub for being good, and we continue.

Here she is lifting a foot for me.....or maybe she is exposing her belly more so it is easier for me to get to?

So we trim, and clip, and clean and then it is all done. No more rubs for you, gal.

What???? We are done so soon????

And while we are at it, here's Bosley in his new do...

This is what he looked like the day before...And, yes, he has fallen off before...
