We add a little water to Matisse's food and he has his own private area when he eats...so I know he's not eating fast because people are around him. Is it normal to eat fast like that?? Is this a "puppy" stage ? |

Just throwing out a remark regarding the fast feeding, Fred was doing the same thing and our trainer suggested putting a can in the center of the dish. It forces the dog/puppy to eat slower. It seems to work for us. |
What a cute avatar you have!!!! SO cute.
I not only think it's normal for a puppy to eat fast, but adult dogs. For my dog, I just break her food up into portions OR handfeed her. It's been over 2 years of being handfed, and it has not changed her eating habits. I just know that she won't swallow her own tongue or something trying to get down all her food if given all at once. She's a dyson. I even tried free-feeding, and she comes from my side of the family I guess. No self control over amounts. Just eats and eats. |
I've never had that be an issue with oes, but I've heard for dogs who eat fast you can put a large rock in the bowl (same idea as the can) |
Annie has always been a good eater. Then it became a race when Fozzie was introduced although they have separate bowls. My thought was that he felt he was in competition with other litter mates to get his share of the food. Once he realized that Annie had hers and he had his own, it slowed down. Also, introducing adult food to Fozzie seemed to slow his eating habits.
We tried putting a small bowl in the middle of his dish and that just went flying and made a lot of noise. My Mom laughs at how the two of them are so excited to eat plain DRY boring food. She gave all of her dogs goodies for most of their lives. |
