Secret News about Menu Foods and Recall

Hate to start a riot here but a friend of mine sent me to this website
www.howl911.com
It lists the companies that use Menu Foods as an outsource to make their food...and I was shocked to see the brands on there...

Wellness uses them for their canned foods; Paul Newman uses them for some of his products...the list was long and shocking 8O

I am a new user of Wellness and now I ma having second thoughts...We pay all this extra money for a food that is claimed to be high quality, etc and its all manufactured by the same Menu Foods?

I was of the understanding that the problem occured with rat poison in the plant that manufactured the wheat gluten for menu foods. Wellness doesn't have any wheat gluten in it.

OLD MOTHER HUBBARD:
* “Menu does make some of our canned cat and canned dog foods. They make
OUR recipes according to OUR quality standards.”
* “We have procedures in place to clean between each run of food that is produced. We also inspect the plant regularly to audit their procedures. Since we take our quality very seriously we go above and beyond what is expected in the industry. We are happy to tell you that we require our facilities to pass an audit by Cook & Thurber, a HUMAN FOOD auditing firm.”
* Other manufacturers are used besides Menu Foods.
* Products do not contain wheat, corn or soy, artificial preservatives, flavors or colors.

Diamond foods is another big manufacturer of pet foods, not too long ago they too had problems with animals dying or getting sick. I guess its hard to know who to trust and what to feed your dogs now
None of that was secret.
I don't think it's suprising that Wellness or other high end brands use Menu Foods. You have remember that this effected particular Menu Foods Manufacturing plants not all. This is the way the global economy works now. A company can not sustain a good profit margin by manufacturing all there own ingredients. They end up contracting out items that can be manufactured at a cheaper price then they can themselves. This holds true for most consumer goods not just dog food. Menu Foods probably has several different levels of quality that they offer at different price points to meet the needs of their customers. I don't believe you need to be concerned with Wellness since they don't have any wheat products in their food.
I think the best we can do for our dogs is try to choose quality, and after that it's out of our hands.

Even if you feed a raw diet, the "human food" you start with could be contaminated-- just remember the spinach E. coli outbreak a few months ago. Contamination happens to all food, human or dog. We can't control everything, so I guess it's best to do what you're comfortable with and know that you're doing the best you can.

I'm sure some of the owners who fed their pets the contaminated food feel incredibly guilty, but they really shouldn't-- there's just no way to know about these kinds of things. I think it could just as easily have happened to the super-high quality than in the lower quality foods.
Good advice.

And as far as secret, it was on the news this morning, and they basically said what the above poster did. You should just choose good quality food, and beyond that... hope for the best.
Choose quality :)
